My 1st Wash
I just got my Black SC last week and wanted to get some advice on washing it for the 1st time.
I saw my salesperson squirt some kinda liquid wax (or polish?) onto a small circular pad and then rub it onto a small spot. It seems like there was EXTREEMLY little effort to apply and remove it and the results were equally impressive!! The black paint looked so incredibly shiny and liquidy!!
What do you guys recommend that makes the car look so shiny with little effort?
Also, is it safe to use a CA Duster on a black car? I'm not even gonna ask about using the CA Water Blade.
Gracias amigos!

Since 2002 I have used the ZAINO product line on the outside 2x per year.
On the inside the leather treatment once per month..........I smoke cigars and no one can tell in the car it was ever smoked in.......
Wonderful stuff

A lot of dealerships in CA are starting to use water-less car wash. Spray on, wait a second, wipe off. Leaves a good shine too. I don't necessarily trust it to wash my car, but I do keep some in the trunk with a microfiber rag in case something gets on the car that I want off right away (bird crap, tree sap, bug splat, etc). Works great. Here's the link (and for the record, I'm in no way affiliated): http://luckyearth.com/index.html
Check out our Automotive Care & Detailing section. They have a bunch of knowledgeable fellaz in there

Peter, I had the same liquid applied by my salesman and it was fantastic polish/Wax. Cherry Wet Wax. Sold by TEXBRITE Houston, Texas--1-800-231-3258.----713-862-6669. It's well worth it.

I also use most of the Zaino products. They are wonderful products and suites all of your request except "little effort". I have had my SC for 4.5 months now and have 9 coats of Zaino on and looks fantastic however it is NOT without effort. Zaino is not like other waxes or polishes. It can be built up in layers for a deep luster. I also recommend you review the detailing section of this forum. As for as washing I would recommend you use a car wash soap unless you want to strip it down to the clear coat. To strip it down to the clear coat (first wash only) use Dawn dish washing soap. Lots of info on the Zaino web site www.zaino.com and on the detailing section of this form. I actually enjoy putting extra coats on my car in the morning when it is cool. My son thinks I'm nuts.
Good luck with whatever product choice you make and enjoy.

I have a black CS as well and I use most of the Zaino products. Black in any kind of heat will not hold traditional carnuba wax, so some type of sealant is much longer lasting. Zaino is one and there are many others, Klasse, Blackfire, the list could be lengthy. I think Zaino is great on a black car, a little work but lasts a good long time. If you decide to go that road the wash before applying Zaino should be Dawn dishwashing liquid. I know it sounds strange but this will completely strip off any detailing product the dealer put on. I wouldn't use it again because it is fairly harsh and once you have Zaino on the car will be easy to wash. Zaino has introduced a simple all-in-one product that is easy to put on a buff out. There are also additional enhancers depending on how much time you want to spend and what satisfies you result wise.
Also I have had great luck with a product called Quick and Easy Wash. Pretty much water free and very easy to use. You can find it at most RV stores. I fill a tank sprayer with a small amount of it and water apply to a section at a time, use a microfiber mit and bucket of clean water. After the section is washed rinse the mit in the clean water and dry the section moving around the car. I live in New England and use this system year round in my garage, even the dead of winter. Works great, the product lifts the dirt off the paint and there is no swirls or scratches created by this type of washing.
Well that's a lot for one post, along with the ClubLexus detailing board stop on over to Autopia.org, probably the best site for detailing that I know of.
I use the CA Duster and have had good results with it, the blade never.
Good luck with the SC

Like the others I too use the Zaino products. I bought an Absolutely Red/Ecru '02 SC for my wife for Christmas in December '07. The original owners took great care of the car but not the finish. I took my time one Saturday and followed the detailing instructions in this forum to a tee.
To use Zaino correctly the finish should be swirl free and surface scratches taken out. The claying and polishing steps are critical if your car has any scratches or acid rain damage. If you are going to go through the effort buy the Porter Cable polisher. It will save your arms. Not sure what year your car is so I thought I'd mention these important steps.
My initial Zaino treatment (4 coats) took 8 1/2 hours. The car is very easy to wash with just a microfiber towel and bucket of water. I use a cloth diaper (Target sells them) and Zaino Z-6 Gloss Enhancer afterward and the car looks amazing.

Darnit - not the answer I wanted to hear

What do you recommend besides getting it washed again with the hose? Could wahsing the duster or replacing it with a new one ever so often be OK?
