Default Paint protection

I just bought my SC430 - a blue 2004 (love it!)

The dealer is offering me his "Car Care" system for $900. It includes "Exterior protection that chemically bonds to the paint, resists UV & oxidation". It also inclused "Fabric protection with BANOYL and leather conditioning".

My dealer is Hendrick Lexus of Pleasanton, CA and he calls it the "Hendrick Autoguard Car Care System", but my guess is the other dealers offer their versions.

My question - is this worth having? at $900?

Any comments and experiences would be welcome.

nooo wayy!!!! stay away from the dealer mumbo jumbo....

for 900 dollars Id go get a "clear bra" put on the front end of the car and call it a day.... oh and maybe spend another 100 bucks on leather care products and clean the interior yourself twice a month and your set.

A clear bra is a clear film which is allpied to the front surface of cars which protects from rock chips and other debris that fly up during everyday driving… that’s like having an extra skin on top of your paint….. The “sealer” the dealer is referring trying to sell you is a 5 dollar bottle of wax which you can purchase at any pep boys around….

EDIT: Btw I bought my SC with the clear bra already on it and I love it!! Haven’t had any chips/blemishes on the front what so ever.

hellllllllll nooooooooooo.

All dealerships offer this so-called paint protection for exterior/interior.
I was lured into this gimmick when I first bought my toyota.
After a few years, I did some research and managed to learn the basics of detailing and maintaining my own paint protection.

when I bought my SC430, I confidently said No thanks, but they kept luring me into it again. I stood my ground and saved $800-900.

Sure, granted that it really does look shiny and good after they put whatever they put on the car, but after comparing my cars w/ the dealership's paint protection and my SC430's paint proctection (Zaino and other detailing products), my paint protection wins by a long stretch.

Go to CL's automotive detailing section and you'll get all the basics of detailing and the paint proctection to do on your own car and save a bundle.

good luck. teeman3

Sounds like the dealer is trying to peddle some sort of teflon coat/sealant. There's a dealership I used to work with that offers a similar type of coating/sealant. Not sure what they call it but $900 sounds about right for dealership pricing (quite expensive if you ask me)

IMO, I'd skip out on that and listen to what everyone else has recommended and get the clear bra. If you'd still like to get a sealant/coat treatment, shop around because $900 is quite a bit of money. My brother who works in the auto-collision and detailing biz says he normally sees prices for teflon sealant jobs range anywhere from $300-700.

THose are usually rip offs designed to make dealer extra profits

You can probably get exactly the same thing done elsewhere for about 10x less . . .

Get me a couple of OpusX Perfection #4's or XXX's, I'll put you on my Zaino Paint Protection plan, and we'll call it even.

Another contrast shot (Zaino vs. others)

NOTE: You don't have to spend alot of bread to enjoy working on your car and knowing that you've accomplished something that works for you.

"Paint Protection!"

Give me a break.

At most you are getting the car waxed.

Save the $900 and get some Zaino for the car, and get the Zaino leather conditioner while you are at it.

Spend the leftover $850.00 on hookers and have a nice weekend.

I agree and since your fellow cl members here have helped you reach this conclusion, I think we should receive complementary lap dances for our services
