I know nothing about these things, but logic tells me your disk is for Gen5 then, no? I read Gen3 (ours) and Gen5 (newer cars) are made by different vendors, so discs are probably different.
Did you buy the disc from your dealer? Let them sort the problem out.
I'd think newer data versions for our Nav would read Ver.03.2 maybe??? Just guessing. Please keep us posted so we know what's the deal if we ever upgrade. Take care.
if i remember right the version number can sometimes be misleading, so i usually go with part number. if you look at part number, you need something that says 3x at the end, not 4x. 4x is for the gen 4 nav (which is for 05+ i believe).
since 05 lexus used a whole new system so the dvds are not competible.
i never updated my nav though so i don't have pics, sorry

In the meantime, some of the info above is not accurate.
First of all, the '02 SC430 had a Gen 2 Nav System. If you bought it in '01 or early '02 you got Data version 1. In '03 sometime I upgraded to data version 2. In Jan of '06 I upgraded to data version 5, which is the most current version (5.01).
The '04 Lexus had the Gen 3 NAV system - this refers to the hardware, not to the data. I don't know whether the '03 had the Gen 2 or Gen 3 system, but both the Gen 2 and Gen 3 systems use the same data disc. (How to tell: at the bottom of the Gen 3 Destination page, there is a small "home" icon followed by 5 numbered quick access icons -- The Gen 2 does not have this, only one big icon for HOME in the lower left corner; there are other differences, of course.)
The '05 SC went to the Gen 4 NAV system and I lost count after that, but I do know that it is from a different manufacturer and uses a different data disc.
So there could well be a version 2 data disc for the Gen 4 or Gen 5 NAV (I don't know how they number their data versions) that is not the same as the version 2 data for the Gen 2/3 systems.
As noted, the best way to tell if you have the right dvd is to check the Lexus Part number, which is not on the Disc or its package. However, the following Lexus cars have the Gen 2 or Gen 3 systems and will all use the same DVD:
LS 430 - 2001 to '03
GS 430 and 300 - '01 to '05
ES 300 and 330 - '02 and '03
RX 300/330 - '01 to '04
LX 470 - '01 to '03
IS 300 - '02 to '05
SC 430 - '02 to '04
GX 470 - '03 and '04
These are the cars with either a Gen 2 or Gen 3 NAV system.
Finally, when you press "DVD" or "DISC" on the menu system, it is telling you the data version, not the Generation of the NAV hardware.

DATA ver 05.1
The part number 86271-33034 tells me that this is a Gen 3 DVD (the first digit after the dash is 3). Your DVD disc therefore is a Gen 5 (86271-53020)
Notice also that the DOTS on this DVD are on the side, not in the center. And the stripes are predominantly obvious in the design. This is the DVD that will work in your system.

Celebrating Lexus & Toyota from Around the Globe
Oh and my car is strange. My car is '02, but the first date of use ever was February '03, I've confirmed this with 2 different dealerships and carfax. My factory warranty is still intact until then as well. So, my car has the gen 3 system with the home icon and 5 additional icons across the bottom for additional marked points.
I bought mine in April of '01 when they first went on sale (I got on a waiting list 18 months earlier; when I picked up my car, the dealer had 150 names on the list behind me). I'm not sure when the '03 models went on sale, but it's usually in Sept or Oct, although it did not make much difference because there were hardly any "model year" changes, and none of them were visible. (The basic rear bushings were changed, and the NAV went from an option installed at the factory on 98% of the cars to standard equipment, both at about this time -- nobody noticed. I think the spoiler was made standard, also, but I'm not sure.)
However, if your car's date of first use was Feb of '03, then my guess is that the dealer kept it on the lot for a demo. Most dealers kept one for this purpose, since the demand was such that all new ones coming onto the lot were already sold and all the buyers knew this and would not want even 10 miles on the car at delivery -- this was the case for about two years from April of '01. The dealers had to have something that prospective buyers could drive.
When a dealer sells a demo, the date of first use for warranty purposes is the date of sale, regardless of mileage, which is the only thing I can think of that would account for an '02 with a date of first use in early '03. And since this '02 model has the GEN 3 NAV, it's clear that the NAV was changed sometime during the '02 model run, which was 18 months rather than the usual 12.
So it's not that strange in light of the history of the first few years of sales.

I got an 02 that is just like urs the first navi disc I had in there is the same one your car came with. I upgraded to the latest DVD and it adds so many more roads in my area definently worth the $250 upgrade. Just shoot me an email if you want the contact info of where I got my DVD from. Also I have some older DVD's I think version 3 and 4 if your interested. Real cheap. Shoot me an email to tonydt1g3r@aol.com
