I just got my Sc a week ago and have carefully put 500 Kilometres or 350 miles as you folks south of the border would say. The owners manual says the break in period is about 1600 kilometres or 1000 miles. I have done a bit of up shifting but have not let the rpm really go beyond 4000 yet. I Just wanted to ask you guys if your regular driving includes shifting or do you just keep it in D and only on occasion use the shift kit? I guess it depends on the drivers preference, but for those of you that do how high do you usually take the rpm and can the transmission handle it, short and long term and those of you that don't shift why not?

Wow... you have a '06 SC430 (pre-'05 SC430's don't have this manual shifting capability)? I didn't know it's on sale already. Congrats to you!! Perhaps you're the only one on CL with a '06 SC430 yet and therefore you're the only one who can (or will be able to) answer your own question here.

you can **** it by putting it in L and then 2, 3, etc....

but for me, i just put it in D and drive.... the point is to drive it and vary the rpm without shooting it too high, then you are fine. lexus engine doesn't really need too much of a careful break in imho

I am not shifting to vary the rpm for the break in period. Actually I am doing the opposite, leaving it in D most of the time. I am waiting for the break in period so I can do some higher rpm upshifting. I have shifted on 2 occassions so far. Both from a stand still in L. I took the rpm up to 4000 in each gear before upshifting, sounds and feels really good. Just wondering if members take it up close to the red line of 6000rpm.

And Henry I am surprised with the way your car looks that you just keep it in D?

I haven't changed my habits from what I described in the thread that good ole Roofless referred you to. Incidentally, I've gone from 6,000 miles then to 12,000 miles now on my ancient 2002 SC. It may be time to get a new one, But without that butt-ugly spoiler!

Wow! It's good to see you guys still around... and Ed, you're STILL trying to figure out how to get rid of that spoiler! Glad you're still enjoying your SC.

LOL ... yeah ... I hate that damn thing.

How do you like your RX300? I thought about exchanging my Outback for one so I could enjoy the same luxury in the winter as I do in the summer.
