Default Speaker Options

first, thank you for this forum….it is awesome! I know there are many, many threads out there on this topic but some of the recommendations are dated now, and some front speakers are no longer available (i.e. Rockford Fosgates and DC Gold etc). Couple pre-requisites…
1.keeping OEM head unit and amp (cost)
2.want to stay at 8 ohms,
3. Not going to bother re-foaming originals…

other than factory OEM speakers, which are $$ and probably not all that, what are my options? Is the DS18 MB69 option with Metra 82-8146 adapter a good option?

I explored the DS18 option and decided against it due to mounting problems. I, like you. decided against the refoam since in my opinion it is a temporary fix at best. I finally went with the OEM and it was a very easy fix. I know it is expensive and the DS18 is probably a better speaker but it was easy and I won't have to think about it for about 20 years.

Re consider re foaming your original speakers, the results may surprise you...it's inexpensive and if you don't like what you hear get new speakers...I did them 5 years ago and they still sound great!

Do you happen to have the OEM Speaker Part Number(s) or did you get them off a salvaged SC that had speakers still in good working order, or did you buy from Bell Lexus, Treasure Coast Lexus or any other dealerships that have great sales?

I would like to have a reference if we ever need to replace speakers, and if the re-foaming isn't a successful fix.

Thanks much.

ned
my car was built in 2006.....materials then vs now are "likely" to be better quality Unless the voice coil is misaligned, there is no reason the speaker will not yield OEM sound characteristics....and yes, the foam replacement job must be done properly. Just my opinion..... I've re-foamed my ancient home stereo speakers twice in the last 40 years.... they sound pretty good to me.

I refoamed mine, but it didn't solve the problem. I suspect the area wear the wires meet the speaker were too worn, Anyhow, I went with these inexpensive Alpine speakers and it was an easy install , Just had to grind off a tit on each mounting ring. I'm old, so I don't blast Led Zep anymore, but for general listening pleasure I have no complaints.

I’ve heard good reviews on this Simply Speaker Kit to re-foam the ML speakers (see below link) and was wondering if anyone’s tried it?

If so, how did it go?

Apologies if I’ve somehow missed a post on this…

their kits are excellent and so are the results if it's the foam that's deteriorated...did mine over 5 years ago and the speakers still sound great!

Awesome -- Thanks for your input!!

Had to put myself on their "Waiting List" as they are currently Out of Stock.

I think there's a speaker/woofer in the middle back seat -- was that hard to get to?

Appreciate your help

Good questions, i just did the same with the waiting list. Im worries my crackle comes from those little tweeter in the top of the door. Not sure if there is fix for those except replacement.

Our fronts are decent but could use improvement, it’s the back side ones that go in and out.

Look at it this way, if you solve the issues with all the other speakers in the kit, and still have some crackling in the front tweeters, then it’s still money well spent and you’d only have to replace the small ones.

Totally agree with Caflashbob... I replaced mine with a pioneer AVG-4200 NEX years ago and the sound system came alive and added great features, car play, Waze, etc....getting to the rear sub is easy... there are posts on the forum and you tube that even show how to re foam your speakers and access to them....good luck and upgrade that head unit you won't be disappointed...
