Default Driver Door not locking

Hello all,

The other day I took the door panels (driver and passenger) off to refoam the 6x9 speakers. Now I just found that the driver door will not lock. Manually or with the remote, it will not lock. The driver side works fine. I can hear the actuator working but the piece above the inside door handle does not move. I can manually move it to lock position but the door doesn’t lock. Took the door panel off and don’t see anything out of place or broken. Check the fuse near the battery and it is good. Seems like the actuator is working but it’s not pulling the cable that moves that piece above the inside door handle. When I manually lock it, I can still open the door from the outside.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

If I use the key fob to lock the doors, it will stay lock. At least it’s lockable.

So which door does not lock ? Passenger or driver?

Later you said that you can lock it with the key fob. Did you mean the key and not the fob ? If you can lock with the key then the problem is your electronic part or your actuator.

Sorry, I meant to day the passenger door is working normally.

I can use the remote buttons on the key to lock and the car will lock and cannot open from the outside. I can also insert the key in the key hole to lock and unlock and that will work as normal too. I think the only thing not working is the latch. Seems the cable that is attached to the latch is broken somewhere near the actuator.

Saw some YouTube videos and will try to get a good look at the actuator and cable one day.

Thank you.

I think the problem could be traced back to you taking the speaker out. I would retrace your steps and see if you forgot to connect one of the lines you disconnected.

Watching this video may help jog your memory

I still have hard time to understand your problem. You can lock with the fob, you can lock with the key, then what is wrong ?

The latch that you use to lock and unlock the car from the inside is not working. I can push it to the locking position but the car will not lock.

There usually is a rod that goes from the latch to the lock. My guess is when you were putting your panel back, the latch fell out of place.

In the sc's case, it looks like it is a cable

See these photos I took when I refoamed my speakers last winter. I believe it shows what was described in the previous post

Loose cables after taking off door panel

I'm still puzzling. If you can lock it with the key fob or with key then your locking mechanism is fine. If you can not lock it with the button then the problem is your switch.

thanks for all the replies with link and pics. My cables looks normal and attached properly. My guess is the top cable with the white plastic maybe broken at the actuator end. Will have to take it apart when I have time and take a look. I read on another thread somewhere that they took the cable to a bike shop and had one made.
