Default FYI Spiral Clock Spring #

Trying to save someone the same ordeal. I have a 06 SC430. I ordered a spiral cable off of ebay, that was to fit my model. #84306 - 51030. Turns out this is not the right part.
The correct part is # 84306-24080. I found it for $319 from Lexus. I also found it for $139 from Clockspring Experts on-line.THEY SENT ME ONE THAT HAD THE WRONG COLLAR. THOUGHT I WAS GOOD BY SWAPPING THE COLLAR, BUT NO GO . Nothing like doing a job 5 times for extra fun,
Replaced the old one and waiting to see what my next move will be. URRRRRRRRRRGH

Well, I had to learn the hard way. First I bought the cheapo clockspring from Ebay and it didn;t have the right connections. Then I bought the clockspring from Clockspring Experts. It looked right except the collar that I was able to swap over. When hooked up the horn and controls worked, but turning the wheel created an awful squeal and rubbing. Finally I bought the unit from Lexus parts. The install took about 15 minutes. (Lot's of experience by now ) Works like a charm.
In my defense I have found aftermarket items to often do the job for a lot less. In this case it turns out I should have spent the good money in the first place. I did eventually get a refund from Clocksprings Experts, but I had the Ebay item too long to seek a refund. Don't be like me

Angry Sc430 Clockspring Dilemma

Wish I had found this thread earlier. Clock springs sold on eBay have the wrong connector. Cars built prior to 08/06 require 84306-24080 and clockspringexperts.com's replacement with the same number has correct wiring but collar does not fit over steering column. Mine was built 02/06 so be cautious not all Lexus parts vendors know this. Many Lexus dealers believe the correct part is 5130 it replaced 2480 but will not fit the earlier cars. Very confusing and totally frustrating but the only option seems to be OEM part from Lexus. I hope this saves someone else's weeks of frustration and hours of fiddling and searching. BTW I am still waiting for the right part so I am unable to completely verify what has been posted and my research. I will update when I hopefully get mine back together and functioning. PS The metal filings are from having to drill out and Helicoil the threads. Even with a steering wheel puller the original threads just gave out. These wheels after so many years can be a bear to remove. I've replaced wheels on many of my Porsches and even 50 year old Panteras but this was a doozy!

Where does one purchase this part?

also, what month and year is your car?
it matters on certain model years

I used eBay. Good luck. $14 and up. You can even enter your make and model in eBay and the parts are pre-sorted. 👍

well, I ordered one for the 2006 SC and decided the procedure was much too hard to be worth it. So for less than $20 I purchased a real loud horn and some bitts and pieces to make a remote horn button that I could stick on the console and thereby pass the Texas inspection laws. Took me less then 30 minutes to implement and I never use it but I am legal.

Yep...this is a deep rabbit hole on finding the correct clock spring for my 09/05, 2006 SC430. Either the plugs do not match up or the collar is incorrect design on the back of the unit. Oem unit has a single yellow plug for the airbag and a female type collar on the back of the unit that goes over the steering shaft. I have tried 3 different clock springs so far with no success. Trying to avoid nearly $400 total for Oem unit but I may be at that point. I believe the 84306-24080 is the correct unit...butit may have been superceeded by 84306-51030, which I don't believe will fit from the pictures I have seen.

I used the 84306-51030 on my 06 a couple years ago and it fit perfectly. It was a Toyota part.

Looks like PN 84306-51030 supersedes PN 84306-24080 -- but you can always call one of the below Online Lexus Parts Depts for verification of PN for your VIN.

I usually go thru Bell Lexus (AZ), Treasure Coast Lexus (FL), but there's also Prestige Lexus (NJ), so order depending on what's more convenient to your location or the better price.

I have personally dealt with Bell -- Joe and Hayden are extremely helpful and knowledgeable and will tell you YOUR part number according to your VIN.

I have also dealt with Treasure Coast, which tends to have cheaper prices and they are also very knowlegeable / helpful.

Bell is closer to me, but I've ordered bigger ticket items thru Treasure Coast to save even more.

If you can, wait for their sales, which are usually around holidays and seasonal events.

With their Free Shipping and NO Sales Tax it's a bonus for us as our local sales tax is over 10%.

You can always call and ask when next sales are. The sales are usually an extra 10%, 12%, 15%, and 20% off their already marked down prices with saving the most around Independence Day, Sep/Oct and Christmas sales. They just had one that finished March 17th with an extra 15% off.

Do you remember if the 51030 had the yellow single plug connector for the air bag, and the larger female collar on the back to fit over the steering shaft? Pics of my oem clock spring below.

That particular one on eBay, has the incorrect shoulder design on the back of the clock spring. Unfortunately I already had to return one like this.
