Default Brake Bleeding

Hey all,

I've got three vehicles that need a good brake flush/bleed.

In the past I've done this the old fashioned way, with a short hose and a glass jar full of brake fluid.

Looking at Amazon there are a plethora of devices for brake bleeding.

Anyone have any recommendations on one to get, or perhaps avoid?

Thanks

Don't know any tools I think of as affordable that will do better than a jar of fluid. Once upon a time I had access to a MityVac system that seemed to do a pretty good job.

EDIT:
deleted some bleeding info I had here, was thinking of my Land Cruiser, the SC is probably different.

The most useful thing, I think, was to buy two bottles of brake fluid rather than just one. Two gives extra margin and allows a more thorough flush.

I used one similar to this Mityvac when i was at a DoD Base Hobby Shop, thought about purchasing one but It would not be used much.
It worked great for a one person operation.

I love this one; allows me to bleed/flush the system all by myself.

This looks awesome. Thanks. Although I might go for the air powered one.

So I used the MityVac to flush the brake system on my '05 Pilot yesterday.

It was so easy, I was convinced I had done it wrong.

About the only thing I had to do was pump the brake pedal with my hand for the front calipers as there wasn't enough suction to get it started. One hand pump and she was flowing.

Easy peasy and the brakes work much better.

I suspect it wouldn't hurt to do it again.

Thanks for following up. So many times folks post (I'm undoubtedly guilty too), and then never post back so others know what fixed (and maybe what didn't work).

I bought and used the MityVac as I have five vehicles to maintain. The only drawback is for some vehicles, and some vintages, one has to buy a different cap to mate it to one's reservoir, and they ain't cheap! Otherwise, I like that I can do the bleeding solo.

Be certain to follow the procedure in the shop manual for the SC rear brakes. It's is different from most vehicles (and you do it without the MityVac).

The one I got draws a vacuum on the bleed nipples. Nothing needed for the reservoir.

I'll check the manual for bleeding instructions. Thanks for the heads up.

I have an older Mity Vac I got at harbor freight that works like you are talking, just off the brake nipples, works well.

I've used this type of simple check valve hose with great success on my motorcycles. Can't see why it wouldn't be just as successful on an SC.

So,

I've read through the procedure in the repair manual on bleeding the brakes. This is not your commonplace braking system.

According to the instructions you need an SST device to actuate the abs pump in order to bleed the brakes.

Doing some digging, the tool is long ago not available.

So I'm throwing this out for the consensus.

How could I bleed/flush the brakes on my '07 SC? I've got a MityVac doohickey, which worked great on my Honda cars.

The fluid is >15 years old. Prolly time for a flush.

Cheers,

Cheers,
I did the two person method with the key on each time. That excited the system and ended up with the fluid moving out and brakes ending up properly adjusted.
