Default Trouble after trickle charge

Hi all...I have a 2002 SC430 that I put on a trickle charger while I was away for 3 months. When I got home, the battery was fine, but I noticed certain problems. For example, neither key fob would lock or unlock the doors, despite changing their batteries multiple times ( the light on the key fob lights up when buttons are pushed, and the key starts the car). The retractable top will not open. I have tried procedures I have read about to fix, such as disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery for 20 minutes to reset the ECU; pressing the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position (but engine off); doing a multi-step process including door lock/unlock multiple times. Nothing works. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

You might have two problems.

With the top, ensure the cover in the trunk is fully seated in the side holder slots.

If the key still starts the car but the buttons don't work, it could be the FOB's battery. If that doesn't fix it, try the key FOB transmitter programming procedure. There iare a few posts about this. The procedure is timing sensitive so it might take a few tries to get right.

Thank you.
The cover is properly seated, and the fob batteries are good. I will try searching out other resetting procedures, but the one I tried (it involved pressing the lock/unlock button on the driver's door multiple times) did not work.
Thanks again.

if the “valet button” in the glove box is in the wrong position, the roof won’t open.

The key fobs, and the retractable roof are not working after taking the car out of storage, which was on a trickle charge. Are there any other features that don't work, such as the power seats, outside mirrors, windows, etc.?

This is horrible advice, but it is "free" to try. Drive your car over a speed bump without slowing down. I think your roof motors might need a little "wake up". (the motor brushes might have contacted the little thing in the middle of the motor (Commutator?) or the micro switches might need to be bounced back into position)

The receiver for the keyfob is built into your rear view mirror. You can try getting real close to the mirror and see if it works. If it does, then it is most likely your fob batteries.

If not,you probably need to program your fobs. I know you said you tried, but..

Are these the instructions you followed?
  • Prepare Vehicle for Programming

With the key OUT of the Ignition, OPEN and UNLOCK the Driver’s door.
  • Enter Programming Mode – Step 1

INSERT key into Ignition (Do NOT turn it) and REMOVE key.
  • Enter Programming Mode – Step 2

PERFORM the following steps WITHIN 40 seconds:

    a. Using the power lock switch on the driver’s door, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock. Use an even pace and try to go about one cycle per second (1 Cycle = 1 lock and 1 unlock).

    b. CLOSE then OPEN Driver’s door.
  • Enter Programming Mode – Step 3

PERFORM the following steps WITHIN 40 seconds:
    a. Using the power lock switch on the driver’s door, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock. Use an even pace and try to go about one cycle per second (1 Cycle = 1 lock and 1 unlock).

    b. INSERT key into Ignition.

    c. TURN ignition to ON (Do NOT Start) then back to OFF.
DO this ONCE to retain existing remotes programmed.
DO this TWICE to ERASE all existing remotes programmed and ADD NEW remote.
DO this THREE times to CHECK how many remotes are programmed to the vehicle.
DO this FIVE times to ERASE all existing remotes programmed.

    d. REMOVE key from Ignition.
  • Enter Programming Mode – Step 4

WITHIN 3 seconds the Power Door Locks should cycle LOCK/UNLOCK to signal successful entry into Programming Mode.
  • Program Remote(s)

PERFORM the following steps WITHIN 40 seconds:

    a. PRESS the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1 second.

    b. PRESS and HOLD the LOCK button for 2 seconds. The Door Locks will cycle LOCK/UNLOCK to indicate successful programming of the remote.
  • Program Additional Remote(s)

REPEAT Steps 6a and 6b for any additional remotes to be programmed.
  • EXIT Programming Mode

CLOSE Driver’s Door to EXIT Programming Mode.
  • Test Remote(s)

TEST all remotes. Programming is complete.
