drained battery - smart key messed up
Everything is OK except the car no longer recognizes my smart key.
I get a message on the dash " key is not detected "
If I insert the key fob into the ignition the car will start the car, but it's something I have never had to do.
The key fob buttons will lock and unlock the car, but when I walk to the trunk, it wont let me open it ?
Anyone know what I need to do to resolve this ?
Oh, I just checked the button under the dash, and its not turned off .....
Thanks

It didn't work either
close all doors lock, manually unlock and open drivers door
insert/remove key twice
close/open drivers door twice
insert/remove key once
close/open drivers door twice
insert key in ignition
close drivers door
turn ignition on/off
remove key
press lock/unlock at same time on key (2 sec)
press lock on key (1 sec)
All this trouble because I forgot to turn my lights out, once ? ?
If not, I would disconnect the negative about 1 min. Do a soft reset of the ECM and do the procedure you did again.
The smart key battery was too weak to open the locks automatically ( had to press the button - so much work ! ) and the smart key battery was too weak for the car to know it was present so it wouldn't start unless put the key fob into the ignition .
A new smart key battery fixed everything.
I learned how to shut off the smart key feature ( when I go away on vacation ) and also how to make the car beep quieter when I lock the car ... All is right with the car again.
