Dude, I’ve had sway bars on my mind the past few days. You’re one of the few people who tracks their SC. Can you fill me in on what your basic suspension setup is now? Spring rates, sways, tires?

I’m interested to hear your opinion on the topic for those of us who aren’t brave enough to track the big girl

Thanks

Nick
for suspension, there isn't too much done tonit right now. I still haven't even installed the figs track spec front upper arms just yet. So far all thats done are megan ez2 coilovers with 2kg stiffer spring rates (14kg to 16 kg front / 10kg to 12kg rear)

Whiteline swaybar kit
shortened BV endlinks
Daizen sport polyurethane steering rack bushings
-2.5 front camber with a degree of toe out
-2.0 rear camber
150 treadwear tires
And ls400 front bbk
Supra tt rear bbk
Thats about it.

My opinion for those who are to afraid to track their sc, it's a personal choice really. You just have to go out there and just do it. Nothing more than just getting your toes wet. I enjoy it because the sc stands out compared to all the other common track cars. People get shooked or surprised at how capable this big body coupe can hold it down.

Took it out to drive it and the 3.92 was just ripping through Lake Berryessa the other night. The car is more predictable and likes to hook when coming out of those hairpins. Good exit acceleration now. Did some skids but it was too dark to record so once i get a good footage and complete my youtube vid, I'll be sure to share it then. So here's a night shot

What are your impressions of the characteristics with those sway bars? Did you have understeer when you had your BBS wheels? Neutral now? Many have advised against upgrading sways because they claim it will make the car oversteer.

I have 285 rear and 255 front, so my car is already biased to understeer. My feeling is that upgrading sways will NOT cause my car to become a drift machine, but I’d like your input.

Also, are you stock SC mounting point for your rear sway?

The sway bars are at the stock location and in my opinion are worth it. The characteristics are manageable if you know how to dial it in. It can do both over and understeer depending on how you set the stiffness level from front to rear. I want mine to over steer a bit to help with rotation so front is at soft setting (because there's only 2 slots for changes) and rear in middle setting (because there are 3 slots for changes). This along with my alignment setup makes the car very predictable and can easily over/under steer if your lines are not smooth or correct (driving lines)

You can have them set on the softest settings and still yield dramatic improvement, but ultimately i do not believe the sway bars will be the major players in causing you to over steer. Just changing the stiffness of your rear coilovers can do that, or high tire pressures in the rear than the front will help you oversteer, and/or having an aggressive front rake angle, (aero/downforce) than the rear will do it as well, Lots of variations

I think you would enjoy the car more with a set of adjustable sway bars. Just remember that if your car is low, you may have to get short stubby endlinks or chop your existing one to clear your oil filter (if you have a 1uz or sc400)

Took the car out to Napa for a few driving impressions. So far I'm digging the setup of the locking diff with a 3.92, it loves to hook and go coming out the turns. Made a video as well.

Great acceleration! Looks like it’s doing it’s job! The 1st to 2nd gear spacing is a thing of beauty, staying above 5k RPM. It looks like if scoots!

I’m extremely envious of your roads and scenery too lol I’m in Florida. No turns and nothing to look at.

This is what it's all about! I just want to put it out there that the Z30 chassis is very capable but too often does it get overlooked as a drift missile or dragster and stance/static. There were alot of folks that didn't think the chassis is capable until they've seen what I've done. Questions started pouring into the messengers on social media and youtube lol

Bought some front splitter rods to push the front splitter down to get a slight angle/rake. Install wasn't too bad and it looks a bit more aggressive now.

Notice before completing both side that left has rod and is already added a slight push down on the front splitter compared to right (rod not installed yet)

Finished, will habe to go thrash it arpund on next track day to see how they hold up. I won't be surprised if they break but i now have an idea of what will be needed to make my own out of stronger material when it happens.

i appreciate the kind words! We work with what we got.. especially a chassis that isn't as common or popular for circuit or time trials
