I have a 1993 SC300. Have had it for a few years and love it. The battery in the wireless remote key died and ever since, opening the driver door with the key sets off the alarm and disables the ignition. Unlocking on passenger side first avoids this problem. Easy to reset by closing all doors, locking and unlocking with the key on the passenger side. I can't find a similar problem searching the forum. Any thoughts? Have replaced the battery in the key. Remote doesn't work and still have the problem.
It could be the little switch somewhere on the door (near the locking mechanism I think) that needs repair or replacing. Since that little switch will send a signal to the security system's ECU.
Yeah, it's usually the little white sensor that clips onto the back of the lock cylinder. If it doesn't detect the lock being turned by the key, it triggers the alarm. I've had to replace them 3x; quite a PITA.

I'm guessing you mean inside the door. Getting the panel off is no problem, but I'm guessing accessing the cylinder is a little more difficult. Any idea of the name of the part or part number? Thanks.
Edit:: -- Just looked at the thread link you sent. Now I understand. I've replaced interior handles on this SC before, but never pulled the exterior, although I've done it on other cars. Before I get into it, can you see the back of the lock cylinder once the interior panel is removed?

You can sort of see it, but getting a straight line at it is tough. You'll understand when the panel is off...
The left and right sides are different, but I'm not sure what the part # is. "Door lock sensor" is the only thing I know it as. I used parts car donors.
I've never thought about how these cars sense the door being open, with no door plunger... How does the lock sensor receive that signal, and from where?
