Default Taking off SC Rearview mirror?

Does anyone know how to take off the sc rear view mirror? What tool would I need and also what to do about the wire running from the mirror to the car? TAI

I've done this before on other cars and I'm pretty sure the technology of rear view mirror attachment hasn't changed much. It's held on by some strong adhesive, probably of the cyanoacrylate variety. Cut it off with a thin utility knife or piano wire right at the base where it sticks to the windshield. Buying a thin, disposable utility knife is probably your best bet, although I think the pros have some sort of ultra thin wire with handles that they use. It's difficult to scratch that safety glass with anything metal so don't be shy. I would protect the elecrical wire going to the mirror assembly by supporting the mirror with a short tether tied to your sun visors. I think disconnecting it would be too much trouble unless you're deep into major repairs and need to remove the mirror for some time.

You can get a kit to reattach the mirror at any car parts store. This isn't an item you need to go to Lexus for. When you buy the kit, which typically includes a cleaner and the adhesive, you can check my spelling of "cyanoacrylate."

I've taken mine off and replaced it with a mirror with auto dimming and compass. I found the easiest way is to heat the existing bracket up with a lighter etc and get a pair of channel lock pliers and slowly twist the bracket after heating it. If it doesn't bug then heat it up some more then it should twist off from the adhesive. Took 5 minutes for mine and my brothers to twist off since he wanted to install my old mirror into his Acura. The wires to the mirror are just plugged in...

Default hey

i was looking at it and it seems to be connected to like a "ball-bearing" type piece. Any idea how to just take that off or would I have to heat off the sticker etc...

thanks again guys for the info..

Heat up the ball bearing piece. then slowly start twisting it and it will come off of the adhesive. You wanna leave the adhesive part onto the window so you can glue the new mount to it instead of glueing it to the windshield itself.
