Question Anyone replaced their own shocks?

My Tokico's are on their way. Since I've read that the rears are easier to replace than the front I plan on replacing the rear ones myself and have a shop put on the front ones at a later date when I have the extra cash. Is this a good idea? I would rate myself as an average mechanic.

Thats funny, as the fronts went on very easy for me, and it was the rears that took forever.

If you can do one set.....just do them all. Its not that hard! Just rent the spring compressor, as most places nowadays rent free tools w/ a deposit.

I have the 96 SC400. The rears are so easy; I replaced them in half-an hour both. The fronts I had to give up and took the car to the shop

I pulled mine out and replaced them with my tein ha's. I though it went pretty smooth without a spring compressor. The driver side front is a little more of pain because you have to move the window washer reservoir, in order to get that long bolt out.

probably upper control arm bolt. i also had to remove the window washer reservoir to get that bolt out. i believe it tells you to do this according to the manual. though i'm sure there are ways around this.

Ajay,

I had mine done at this shop in Milpitas, CA but since I wouldn't recommend it so I'm not going to name it here. Still searching for a competent and honest mechanic after 20 years of driving
