Forced Induction? AT LAST!!!
OK ALL, we've all been talking about it for what seems like an eternity. The reality of Forced Induction- More RAW HP, Faster Off-the-Line starts, Kick-BUTT quickness. It is nearly here. Available to all of you 1UZ-FE owners and drivers who have the need for speed and show. This is no joke. Our True BOLT-ON SuperCharger Kit should be available to all US customers within 90 to 120 days. Your entry price to experience and enjoy it? Approximately $6,000 - $6,500. You should get approximately 100 HP gain at the flywheel, and a minimum 40% increase in torque. This is not a Sales-Attempt. This is only to determine your answers to the following Questions:
Yeah, $6500 for only 100HP at the FLYWHEEL (so in an automatic, we're looking at only 75 at the rear wheel) is a bit hard to swallow. You can do a 2JZ-GTE swap (including the cost of the motor) for that amount and you'd be able to tune it above 100HP at the flywheel...
$4000 would be a more realistic price IMO. Either way, good luck on the project! I'm glad to see people working to get some sort of FI solution out for the 1UZ's...

i've heard the gotta pay to play phrase so many times... but you've got to pay for stuff that works.
you also have to consider the dollar/HP.
doing the math on a 1st Gen SC400.
260@ crank = 180 @ wheel = 69% power transfer to the wheels
so with the supercharger giving 100HP @ flywheel translates to 69RWHP
BFI = $5 = 5-10RWHP
Rush headders = $500 = 10RWHP
custom exhaust = $1000 = 10RWHP
torque converter (stock reworked)+ LSD = $1500 = FEELS like 50extra RWponies
shift kit (the auzie ones) = $500 = alot quicker shifts
coilovers = $1500 = alot of handling
sways and bushings = $1500
The above listed are about $6500 worth of mods that will make you car handle better, much more responsive, etc etc and will get you well into the 14's if not high 13's which I would take in a heartbeat over a kit that will give me 69RWHP for $6500.
I'm not trying to belittle your efforts to bring a supercharger kit to the market or trying to discourage you in any way. I fully support any cause that would make the SC4's better.... I am just responding to the "gatta pay to play"
I like to play and people who know me KNOW that i like to play.... but they also know that I never overpay to play.
One more thing.... add that bottle and you're doing high 12's low 13's all day(or as much as the bottle has).

I too appreciate the effort, but the high cost and "the unknown" will be your sales challenge...
First of all, with all due respect, who are you? What prior experience does your company have? Does it require a hood modification?
Here's what you're up against: It is really $6000 plus labor, so the final tally would be $7500-9000(?) for a non-mechanic.
With a TC (increasing 1/4 mile times by 1/2 sec. ) and an upgraded ECU (38hp), one could get a 250hp SC400 up to a much quicker 288hp. Add a 100 shot of nitrous for fantastic (albeit temporary) performance and realistic mid-13 sec. times (maybe lower?). This could all be done for 1/2 the cost of the supercharger.
If the costs were equal, or if the supercharger were $1000 or so more, I think most of us would get your product if we could be convinced of its quality and reliability (hence the fear of the "unknown"). But the above issues make it difficult for you to convince me, or maybe many others.
We welcome the effort --- give us your best sales pitch and lower the price. Maybe you can sway us...

also when people say that SC4 owners cringe when we see anything over a few thousand... we wouldn't cringe if we actually got decent gains by paying 5 or 6 grand, i just have trouble justifying spending that kind of money for so little gain... I'm not going to harp on this subject anymore..
good luck to everyone.
good luck to everyone.
To All who have responded:
I appreciate each one of you replying. Great feedback. The cost is an estimate. There are some custom and patented parts that costs have not been determined yet. Once those are completed, a real price will be given. This is to test the market potential with some on this forum only. $3,000 will never happen, you could not build one yourself for that, even with you doing all of the R&D as well as labor.
Also, 100 HP is approximate, and only the first iteration of this project. It will be tunable, and more HP will be available. The ECU is also being addressed. The 100HP is without the ECU mods, and this will work. We are not trying to make the car a race car, but, a faster, more responsive street car. For those that want loads of power, no problem. It can be done-Lots of cash. Most do not want to drop that kind of money.
This SC will be reliable, and will not shorten the life of your car.
As far as performance times, to those of you whao have done the mods, post a copy of your time slips at the track. And while you are at it, how about how about dropping the $70 or so for a dyno. Let's get some evidence of these claims.
To help you all out with your concerns, I will post track times of before and after the SC is installed on my 93. I will also dyno it before and after as well.
Remember, this SC is a bolt on. You do not have to perform any other mods unless you want to.
BTW, I think it was LexVSC that mentioned the BFI. I have fabricated the BFI, and completed that mod on my car. Has any other US SC400 owner added this mod to their car?
Oh, the hood does not have to be modded. The SC will fit under the stock hood without a problem.
Thanks,
Ryan

I'm sure it wasnt directed to ALLLLL who responded.
Anyway, It's cool that you're wanting to do stuff for the 400 scene...I'm not tryin to telll you how to run your biz, but you may wanna research the market and existing products BEFORE trying to find out how much you can charge for it.
Example of knowing your market:
BFI...This is not new and MANY people have done this mod thanks to our friends down under. Some of us have even improved on the idea...A LOOOONG TIME AGO
Existing products:
SuperChargers fitting under hoods....Which ones dont? The FIRST unit from C's designed for the LS??
What you are trying to do is really cool. I wish you and your company the best of luck with the project
