98' Rear Deck Speaker Upgrade Help
Hello,
I have a 1998 Lexus SC400 with the Nakamichi sound system. Recently my rear deck speakers have been making buzzing noises during parts of songs that have very little bass. It is at a range somewhere where the sub won't make the sound so the speakers do them instead and they buzz and don't sound good. I was looking to upgrade my rear deck speakers and I know that 6.5" speakers can fit in the rear deck very easily. I was wondering if anyone has run newer aftermarket speakers for their car and what brand have you run? I am worried about just picking the first speakers I can find on Amazon since the last time I did car audio I put 240 peak watt fronts and 140 peak watt rears into a Subaru with only a 60-watt per channel head unit. Does anyone have any recommendations on brands or specific speakers that have worked for them on the stock amp? Or if anyone knows the safe limit for max watts running off the stock amp per channel? looking at the sticker on the amp it says 40 watts per channel max which doesn't leave much room even for very basic pioneer speakers (4ohm 200W max, TS-F1634R). Any help would be appreciated since I need to get this done I don't want my audio to sound worse for any longer than it has to.
Thanks in advance

if it was the amp wouldn't it have the same effect for the fronts as well? I have replaced my head unit with a JVC double din unit. I am not sure if it made the noises while my stock head unit was in the car since I replaced it very quickly after purchasing it. would there be a way to check/test my amp if it is the problem with the amp rather than the speakers?

Just adding to the thread with videos
One video is arms wide open by creed the beginning part you can hear slight buzz
another video is a Nickelback song you can hear the buzz in the bass hits
the third vid is frank ocean in my room and it’s just horrible probably the worst sound that has ever come out of those speakers
if anyone can tell if that’s speakers or amp lmk

There's a write-up in the Audio section on converting the stock system over to aftermarket components. The bulk of the wiring gets reused, but you'll need to run a remote turn-on and probably heavier gauge power wire.
I went with a 5-ch Alpine amp, so it also powers the subwoofer.

Update + re asking the question
Hello,
hopefully someone can help me out with a couple speaker recommendations for the rear to upgrade to 6.5” on an SC400
I decided to look into my speakers and 100000% they are blown. You can stick a screw driver from the bottom side through to the grill.
attached are some images
thanks to anyone who can help me out with a few suggestions. I don’t want to cut anything. Currently I’m looking at some infinity REF 6532ex so if anyone has experience with those speakers let me know

The speakers both being that bad indicates they've both been shot for quite a while. My suggestion that the amp is more likely to blame was based on the understanding that the speakers sounding bad was a recent thing.
This is what I did for rear deck speakers:

I've occasionally thought about upgrading them to a higher tier brand, but they sound pretty darn good so I've felt no pressing need to do so. It's a night and day comparison to the stock Nakamichi speakers (and amp/HU, which I replaced at the same time...can't separate out the individual impact).
