Default Dome light gremlin?

Hello all. Recently noticed an odd thing with the dome lights in my SC. Pressing the left and right buttons will turn on the dome lights. So, good. However...

The little switch that lets you choose to keep them OFF, set it turn on with the DOOR settings, etc., does literally nothing. So regardless of doors open or closed, switch on or off, I only have dome lights when the buttons are pressed. Dome fuse in engine bay is in good condition. I've looked around and am not sure how to proceed. Any help or direction is truly valued.

Probably useless PS- It is a hardtop, so the dome unit looks different that most. I'm sure the electrical is all the same.

Thank you!

could be something with the door switches not operating correctly.

I could see that I suppose, but even with the doors closed, the sliding switch in any position does nothing to the dome lights. Is the system that convoluted that it could still be the doors?

oh I misunderstood, it should come on with that switch in the on position, if it doesn't then it isn't the door switches.
it could be the switch on the dome unit itself but I haven't heard of that issue before.

are you sure the main dome light bulb is good? the 2 buttons activate the each of the smaller "map" lights, but the switch with door on and off activates a third bigger "dome" light inside the dome unit.. it does not turn on the 2 smaller bulbs. its like a 31mm festoon bulb

here you can see the 3 different bulbs, the "door" swtich only activates the one at the top that spans the whole way across.

I must be that special kind of dumb. I hadn't even thought about center bulb. I guess I never really pay attention to that, I bet its just burnt out. To get in I assume you just kind of pry the unit open? Thank you so much by the way! No pun intended but something just wasn't really clicking for me

Correct. There's an indentation on one of the long sides for a flathead screwdriver. It always requires enough prying that a bit of damage gets done to the plastic, but it eventually pops off intact.

I made the mistake once of pushing it back in. Anything that takes that much force to get off takes an equal amount of force to get back on... One of the sides caught my finger as it was clipping in and left me with a pretty good blood blister. Lesson learned. Now I just line it up and punch it into place, keeping my fingers in the middle of the lens. Safety first!
