GS brakes on SC?
Would anyone know if 1) the GS400 brakes (caliper/rotor) set up is different then the SC300 and 2) if different, would the GS400 brake set-up work on a SC300?
By different, I mean bigger, better etc. and since the supra TT set up fits the GS and SC would this GS to SC just be an easy swap if it fits?
I understand that there are better aftermarket brake upgrades but my wheel offsets don't allow for the bigger caliper. So I am looking at other options...
thanks

Hey Lawman!
Manaray will be showcasing a nice big brake upgrade for our cars from Stoptech....13 to 14 inchers. These would suit us fine.....look for it in the next few weeks or so. I think this would help some with disk fitment and brake upgrade (but you will need an 18" or more wheel)

Leon,
Thanks. I talked to Manary about this as well and he was the one who actually talked to me about the GS brakes because he just drove a GS300 and felt the brakes were much better then his stock SC brakes. The problem with my wheels is that the offset up front is at +42 so there is not much room up there. I did read that those stoptechs could fit on a stock IS which gives some hope but for now I was thinking of alternatives for "better" brakes.
Anyone on the GS brakes???

Anyone on the GS brakes???
The brakes on the GS do feel better than in the SC but im talking about a 02 GS with less than 10k, they basically look the same, size and all..I would dare to say that it would feel ABOUT the same after you getting brand new pads and rotors all around in a SC,.. one thing I did notice is that the GS feels more like is gripping gradually until it stops , while the SC, with all new hardware, will stop you right on the spot if you dont watch your foot.. Try braided brake lines, they help to give you a more solid feel on the pedal in a high mileage car.. Now, someone correct me but weren't the SC400 brakes slightly bigger than 300's in some years???
lawman,
what year SC300 ??? I believe GS400 brakes are the same as SC400 brakes so will fit. If you have a newer SC300 you should ALSO have the same brakes. Sometime after the SC300 came with factory 16" wheels, they also upgraded the brakes to the bigger SC400 ( 95, 96, 97 or so ).
Skulinex,
Older V8 Lexus brakes have a problem with their caliper pins, often times the pins will "freeze" in the sleeve. ( No experience with the newer car brakes, but the design seems the same ) This destroys brake feel and often times makes the brakes feel like you have a bad master cylinder. The fix is to remove the pins, clean and regrease with high temp brake grease and install new pin o-rings. This should give you back the brake feel of a newer car.

Thanks for the replys...
Skulinex you are right... I have a 93 SC300 so my calipers are smaller then the SC400s... I talked to Manaray about upgrading to the SC400s "bigger size" but he said to try to check out a newer GS300/400 set-up because as he drove his stock SC400 brakes compared to a newer GS300 he noticed the brakes on the GS were much better then his. So that is why I am trying to figure this out and see if anyone else has tried this, or if even worth the "upgrade". I may have access to a 2000 GS400 stock brake set up so I am seeing if anyone can give me any advice on this. Thanks and keep it coming...

lawman,
maybe because all the brake components were newer??? There is a marked difference between my brother's car and mine. Same year, same model, same options. His brakes are newer, new MC, new rotors, new pads, pins cleaned and greased, new fluid, fresh ABS flush. His brakes feel much tighter then mine.
Regards

Sounds logical... I will look into to see if the 2000 GS400 calipers would fit on my 93 SC. I am thinking from the posts that the 2000 GS400 brake set-up is the same as the SC400 brake set-up. So I guess any "bigger" brake up-grade would be a plus. But that getting new stuff would actually be the best bet. Thanks again...
