So today, I noticed my brake tail light wouldn't go off. I've tried stepping on the brake numerous times and disconnecting the battery also, but it still comes back on when I re-connect the battery. That's the only way it goes off. I'd rather not run my battery down; It's fairly new so any one have any ideas of solutions?

 

Check the brake light switch on the brake pedal, though this should affect all your brake lights.

 

I don't see a switch. Is it an actually switch cause I don't see anything


Here's a picture of what I see when I look above the brake pedal

 

Brake pedal switch is a push switch that is spring loaded and rests against the arm of the pedal. When you step on the brake and move the arm away from the switch plunger the plunger moves out thus activating the brake lights. When you release the pedal the arm comes back and pushes the plunger in which shuts off the brake lights. The switch can go bad internaly from wear which will leave the brake lights on. There is also a threaded adjustment on them to take up play. Switch is not expensive but a bit a a pain to change as you have to fit up under the dash in font of the seat.

 

There is a small plastic/rubber button in the brake pedal arm that pushes against the switch when the brake is all the way up. I can't see it clearly in your photo but it looks to be missing. This is a common problem, they get brittle and break. When it breaks, the button on the switch just goes into the hole where the button was and does not turn off.

Check it out and let us know what you find.

 

You were right RXRodger. I found pieces of it broken on my carpet. I just improvised and placed something in place of the plastic piece. Thanks
