Hey everybody. I'm Dave. I recently picked up a 97' SC400 and after two days of driving, I am in love.
Growing up, I would always see a slick white car parked in my aunts driveway. Being just a child, I had no clue what the car was, but I knew I liked it. The lines of the body. The color of the leather. The whole thing screamed my name. I never dreamed I'd own one since my aunt was fairly well off.
I know 48 hours ain't a long time, but it's clicked. I get it. I see why the rest of you are downright crazy about these cars.
I perused these boards in preparation of my purchase and got more excited than a kid on Christmas. The love and affection you folks show for your cars was infectious and I couldn't wait to join the clan. And now that I'm here... I couldn't be happier.
I know it's just a car and I may be rambling a bit, but I just wanted to share how excited I am to own such a beautiful piece of machinery.
I'm looking forward to participating on these boards and showing the progress in bringing this beauty back to life.
Dave, welcome to CL. Nice pick up. What's your plans for her? You should browse the DIY threads, as well as the builds, etc. There's a ton of useful information available. Search function helps quite a bit too. Thanks for sharing and keep us posted.
I want to clean her up and bring her back to the original "fresh off the line" look and feel. Considering she's almost 20 years old and shows 256,xxx on the clock, I figure I'll be playing it by ear a little.
In time, she's due for some new shoes and will be sitting a little lower. I'm not gonna make her a race car. I want to maximize the drivability and comfort that these cars were originally known for.

The love here is unconditional, since she's that old, I'd do all the maintenance work just to be sure and tighten up your valve cover bolts
Dave, sounds like a plan. Bring her back to her infinite beauty! Basic maintenance for a piece of mind...256k, still plenty left on that engine. A buddy of mine has 463k on his with the same engine, I'm at 277ish on my current.
