my bike doesnt have chrome on it, but i ride with lots of bling bling guys
but the shops i know are in nor cal
chroming your engine (Block?) is not a good thing. Unless you like yellow and blue.
For items near to heat, I would suggest nickle plating (like brakes and such)
polishing for other items that are so near to heat, but can be exposed to it..(ie. pulleys, valve cover, air intake)
Ceramic coating works well on other parts that you can not dip (altenator, AC pump)
then there powder coating: a great way to add color and longivity.
chrome is last. reason I say last is because of the dipping process, this means that only certain items can be chromed. Also chrome has a hard time charge certain areas that are hard to get to (like deep bends in metal or brackets).. those spots will come out with a dirty or yellow tint.
I personally would keep chrome to bigger flatter items: wheels, sheet metal, core supports (hehe.. long story)
I have alternate guys who do all of these for me here in the south, Im sure you wont have a problem find some out there. Just ask around, ask hot rod shops, they usually have good polishers and ceramic -coaters.
hope this helps.
PS if your going to paint, use a hi temp primer before, and hi temp clear (hott coat).. and dont be shy with the clear.

This is my buddy (wkdwgn)'s engine.
We have been working on this (along with some other details) for the past year.
It's amazing when a rodder, will actually complament a Honda on it's engine bay
Kevin has spent alot of attention to detail, which is what it will take to make a great looking engine bay.

a way to test the metal under the hood is to put a magnet to it. If it doesnt stick then its alumninum and hence polishable.
chroming is the process AFTER polishing where they dip it in a solution after exposing the bare metal in which adheres to the polished metal. you cant just "dip" plastic or anything else into chrome. Its a super high temp solution.
if you want to take your stuff to a polisher or chroming/powdercoating place, look it up in the phone book. It shoudl be in there under polishing and plating.

it's not necessarily chroming, its also polishing. Anything aluminum under the hood can be polished. Your valve cover for one, your strut bar (can be repolished), your alternator, AC lines... anything aluminum.
