Question??? Harmonic Balancer

Do you have to remove the harmonic balancer on a automatic 93 sc300 to remover the cylinder head ??? Im trying to avoid all unnecessary procedures while I'm changing the head gasket Thanks in advance

I can't imagine how the crank pulley would get in the way of removing the cylinder head, but I've never done a head gasket on this car yet. So I wouldn't listen to me.
