Default Harmonic Balancer

My harmonic balancer went out on me tonight. I haven't been able to find a new for my 1995 Lexus SC400.

Dude,

Are you referring to part number 1340750020?

Dude, that is for the SC430 not the SC400. I just got off the phone with the dealership. A new one from them is almost $400.

Dude,

What is the part number that the dealership gave you for the harmonic balancer? I have located part number
13407-50030. There is apparently some confusion about whether or not the v8 harmonic balancers are the same item for all Lexus V8s from 1990 to the early 2000s. Part number 13407-50030 is ONLY listed for sc400s from what I see so you should be 'good to go'.

This part is around $100 for a generic. Don't pay $400.

This is one of those parts I wouldn't cheap on.
When mine went out it was no fun replacing it, with an OEM unit at least you know it's not going to break anytime soon. If you do decide to go aftermarket with it, then make sure to get one of the ones thats a single piece. I know for the SC300 there is on good aftermarket Harmonic Balancer, I don't remember the bran though, it may have been unorthodox. Titan makes one for higher HP cars as well, it costs about as much as buying a new OEM unit from the dealer.

Search around, but I've heard of several failures from the cheaper generics, not saying they all fail within a year or two, but that I've heard of it happening on this specific part. Search around on the forum some more and see what people have bought for that part on the 400.

I am still searching for a cheaper priced OEM HB. I'm not going to go with a cheap aftermarket, when I know the factory one lasted 21 yrs and 300,000+ mile. I have one out of a Sc400 that i found in the pick a part for now.

Mikef sorry to disappoint you but I'm keeping the 1UZ-FE in my baby. That's what almost everyone does, but there are us few that love the V8.

Dude,

$225-$250 is still too much for a new harmonic balancer?

It is when you don't have it at the moment.

Out of curiosity how did yours fail exactly? Can you take a pic? Not at the keyway right? I have a 95 SC400 as well and I'm doing the timing belt on it, just waiting for the kit to arrive, but I got the everything off ready to go so I'm interested in what yours looks like.

^^^^ Ramblerman hit on the head. I could pull the part the belt rides on off the center part that bolts to the crank. I will have to take pictures tomorrow cause it's at my work.

I will give OEM and maybe "name brand" OEM credit as they come with drilled holes for using a pulley tool to mount it, otherwise you've got to drill them yourself with the cheaper made in China ones.
