peeling out from a stop
Guys,
I just bought 95 sc400 with 61k miles. It does not have traction control. When I punch it off the line there is no tire spin at all and it feels sluggish until around 2.5-3k rpm.Is this normal?I think maybe I need a tune up because the 60k was not done.Could this be my problem? Thanks

Hmm. Good recommendation, but this probably wouldn't be the cure-all.
The tires, transmission, and some other things (which I can't htink of) can be a definite culprit.
When I first got my LS I could peel out off the line by punching it. The car also felt very much faster than it does now. It had 118,900 miles at the time. Now, I'm at 155,000.
The spark plugs, caps, rotors, and wires should bring that part of the engine up to snuff, but it may not give you the peel out power you want. Others have asked the same question that you did, myself included and most people respond with the engine tune-up answer. I think I recall of one member posting he did all that was suggested and still couldn't peel out. The other responses from users noted the transmission and torque convertor (T/C) as the problems.
I've done mostly everything I could do besides replacing the transmission and T/C and I still can't shirp off the line! Even if I power break to 1800 RPM I still get the sluggish take off just as you do until the 2800RPM + range. The maintenance I items I performed included -
Spark plugs (even tried performance plugs which did nothign except make my engine mis-fire)
Spark plug wires,
Ignition caps and rotors
Full transmission flush (multiple times)
Differential fluid replacement
Different tires (2 sets now)
Intake modification (still haven't found anything that produces power)
Exhaust (MUCH experimentation here - found nothing that shaved off a consdeirable amount of 0-60 time)
This at least, leaves the transmission and T/C. I had my car dyno tested and it produced a healthy amount of power (177P) but with a large amount of loss through the transmission.
Hope that helps

i'm at 188,090 miles on my '92 and even though i don't romp it often, everytime i have, it has lit them up. i dont know the history on the car unfortunately before me, but i have done nothing to it except change the oil so far (everything else looks clean). i figure at 200k i'll go all the way through it with a full tuneup. the TQ wear sounds like a very good assumption. i would expect since it is a high stress area, that would be a very likely spot, but i really haven't any reference on that, just considering. of course, it never hurts to tune a car up, might get lucky. Hope all works out!

This has to do with tires too. What size, type and age of tires do you have? On my SC400 I could peel (one) wheel out pretty mean on a turn. With old tires I had no trouble peeling out both. With the ECU, intake and new tires I could roach them and leave a nice cloud of smoke every time. If I power braked and launched I left a 40-50 ft strip of rubber as I launched.
