Damn those look nice!
Can he show step by step instructions on how he did that?
Then I can convert my tail-lights to those, and do the same thing!!
...I'm jus gonna wait until some idiot makes a smart *** comment on how "rice" they look

all you do is put it in the oven for 10-15 minutes, and then take it apart. then pull out the tabs. that's his short version of explanation.
i think they look really nice. I don't think it's rice at all. very clean, as long as they aren't those damn altezzas. Poor IS's. They got played out WAY before they came to the states. haha

wow, that beats paying nearly $600 to have them done by some company
do u guys think that same method can be used to do it on the first generation tail lights?
i shall attempt after i get my hands on a spare
clearing the tail lights is something i have been wanting to do ever since i got my car!

not possible on the first gen tail lights. have you ever seen one all bashed up from an accident? the orange part is actually the lense. so even if you crack the orange, you'll have a hole.
i don't see why they aren't street legal. as long as you have orange signals. plus, you already have the oEM red brake lights intact.

I've been trying to get my hands on the 95-96 tails for a while now, so I could get the half red half clear look. Darn! you beat me to it, but I'm glad we have set instructions now, I can't wait! Great job dude!

I can think of scores of cars with amber bulbs behind clear plastic for the rear turns. No different from 00-01 ES, 01+ IS, '00 Accord, etc. As long as you have proper red reflectors on back and sides, red brake lights, red rear marker lights, I believe it's street legal. Then there's the cars with all-red taillights that serve as brake, tail, and turn lights all at once (many American cars), there's no amber reflectors, and they're fine.
Clearing the front side markers, however involves removing the DOT mandated amber side reflectors, and is technically illegal, unless you mount an amber reflector (backlit at night) below the light on the bumper (as cars with OEM clear corners do, like the IS300)

For 1st gen
I read somewhere to buy a roll of Red Tailight repair tape, and put it over the orange turn signals, and I must say it does make a difference, IF you plan on doing this, I would reccomend 10 feet, cuz each tailight is 2 1/2 feet... and your going to want to go over with another ply...BTW, the tape has to be 2inches wide, and it will work fine.... It cost me $3.49 for 5 feet at R.S. Strauss
