Default A/C Light randomly starts blinking after turning off AC

** Edit ** - Resolved, see below.

Recently got my 1999 SC300 and this "issue" is bugging me a little and i'm unsure what would be going on. The A/C works great, no trouble at all. After I turn it off though, within a few minutes usually, the light will start blinking. Push it and it turns the A/C on and push it again and it turns off(I do it rapidly when I don't want it on and it doesn't turn on before I've shut it off). It will do this several times at least(dunno for sure, haven't driven it long enough to really know what it would wind up doing if I kept going) after turning off the A/C. What might be going on? I don't remember right off at the moment but its possible it has done this without the A/C having been on since starting the car. Haven't really seen anything else where the light does this without other symptoms existing. The A/C hasn't turned off automatically yet.

Do you have the HVAC in Auto mode, by any chance? I never use Auto mode because I'd rather control it myself than have it constantly hunting.

Do an A/C diagnostic search on this site, there is a write on how to trouble shoot the codes for the A/C. I had issues with my light blinking also but the AC worked great, then my alternator failed. I replaced the alternator and the light blinking issues went away just by doing that. I checked it off as a poor charging system being the culprit. How is your charging system? Good luck and keep up posted on your progress.

Just showed 00s when I did the AC diagnostic procedure which apparently means its not sensing any trouble.

Similar issue here, when I turn the ac button on, it blinks on and off but also the fan goes on and off non-stop with no ac. Gonna have to find that thread link with how to troubleshoot ac codes now..

Just saying... The only similarity I see is that it has to do with AC. Not sure what your problem has to do with this.

Just had this happen to me (ac works fine). Oddly enough, my alternator started making a whining noise yesterday so I am hoping this is related to BiGEZ's problem above and that it will go away after an alternator swap..

I had this issue too a couple of years ago and about a month later my alternator went out, so just like someone else mentioned it may be related to the charging system.

So I figured I would come back and update this post now that I have seemingly resolved this issue. Sorry if its bad form to resurrect an older post like this but I figured an update would be welcome.

It was indeed, the alternator. Got a new one in and it hasn't done it since. Interesting symptom for that problem, would be curious to know if that was intended to happen with a bad alternator or just happens to be a symptom of the problem? Anyway, its all good now.
