I was a bit dissapointed. Ive had my sc4 for a bout a month now and have added only a K&N intake kit, I finnally decided the other night to test my 0-60 with a stopwatch. I pulled out onto a flat open road with trac disengaged, overdrive disengaged and pwr acceleration on, and with a tiny bit of wheel spin, it ran in about 8 seconds. Is this normal to lose some performance over the years? My car is a 1992 with 50,000 miles now. Ive added slick50 oil treatment and valvoline synpower fuel additive recently, that seems to make it run out smoother. Also, I had denso iridium spark plugs installed, that seems to make it run smoother, less performance gains. I think the time for a torque converter has come.... I just wanted to ask, will a TC create a strain on my tranny or any other components that will cause a need for replacement with normal use?
If you have not reset the ECU since you installed the K&N filter, it might help. Do a search on how. There are some really good threads on resetting the ECU. Good luck.
Stop watch is NOT accurate. It take time for you to react when you see 60 mph. The RT could be as much as one second. One second from the starting of the acceleration and one second from the stopping the watch. 8 seconds minus 2 seconds due to RT you get 6 seconds. Best way to test the car out is with a lazer gun. G-Tech is the more affortable method. Dont feel best, you just need be method to test and measure the performance.
8 is close to the mark. Fastest V8 I've timed is 7.4. Some of the twin turbos I've been in have managed 6.5.
It is humanly impossible to see something random and then press something much faster than 0.4 seconds. But the speedo is different - you can estimate when the 60 is coming up - you see it coming, 56 57 58 59 60!
Start your stopwatch - try to stop it bang on 5 seconds, then 10 seconds, then 15 seconds while sitting in a chair. This will give you the same effect. You will be accurate within 0.14 seconds on most occasions. Best measure of how your car is going can be driving someone else's SC400 and compare.
I tried using the egg timer method to get a 0-60mph time, allowing for reaction time I averaged 6.5sec, this was before using an accelerometer which actually gave me 5.97sec.
Thats for mild tuned 2.5TT running 319bhp @15psi, running 18psi on steel hybrids the 0-60mph is 6.10sec (more turbo lag from the heavier turbines). My 4.0ltr V8 is much slower, I would go with Petes 7.5sec, a de-cat and BFI should get it nearer to 7sec.
