Default headlights flash when locking / unlocking car

Hey Guys,

my 92 sc400 came with an aftermarket (i think) alarm and i was wondering if the headlights are supposed to flash when you lock the doors from the factory or if that is something my aftermarket alarm is doing? and then the headlights stay on until you get in the car and put the key in the ignition when you unlock.

i want to try to figure out how to not make them flash, i don't want my HIDs wearing out by flashing twice whenever i lock my doors.

thanks,
Marko

My '92 doesn't give any sort of signal when locking / unlocking. Wouldn't mind the headlights flashing, it's annoying to have to try and listen for the locks

Either the previous owner wired
it up that way, or the people who installed the aftermarket alarm.
Which is not a bad idea lettin you know if the doors locked or unlocked

My aftermarket alarm was installed by the PO, the parking lights in my headlights flash. I have no idea how you'd go about re-doing it. You'd have to know where the brain of the alarm is wired up and what color wires are going where, and all sorts of questions. I imagine with a DMM you could probably test it and figure it out with a few hours of work, but it's not something I'd be excited to dive into since you'd have to locate the alarm brain before you could even begin, and the installer couldv'e hidden that anywhere.

But this is how you build a relationship with your car and a knowledge base, start taking things apart and testing things.

If you have a wiring diagram of the aftermarket alarm system that you have in your car, then you should be able to tell from it which color wire is going to your lights & disconnect it. My 96 SC has a beeper connected to it from the factory. 1 beep for lock, 2 beeps for unlock. Most new cars the lights flash for lock & unlock also.

yeah i am going to have to dig into it. already rewired the engine harness so no new ground here for me just gotta find the FSM page for headlights and see where the alarm taps into them. maybe swap the alarm out for a keyless entry one while im at it.

thanks for the responses!

The brain is almost always under the driver side dash since it has to be directly wired into the ignition, hence, anti-theft. I would find the box/brain, google the serial number of it and boom, I bet there will be a PDF online somewhere to which wire is what..

I totally forgot that I HATEDDDD having no verification on my 92 of the lock/unlock through the key fob. Now on the 97, I click it and it beeps, kind of quietly actually, but plenty to hear it.. Love it.
