In the cluster "R" for reverse is illuminated orange all the time, doesn't matter what gear your in. Down on the shifter, "R" has the red light on all the time, doesnt matter what gear your in. Also reverse lights are always on. I have no issues with the rest of my lights. My car is an automatic also. Ive searched and searched and come up empty handed. Is there some kind of back up switch somewhere that when bad?

 

That is likely caused by someone shifting the lever without pressing the top button. My guess is you need a new shifter assembly.
