3 times all in a row ? dang, sounds like one of two things:
the brake lights are creating just enough draw to bring the system down (or lets just say it's electrical in nature)
or
the fuel filter might be clogged so badly the system isnt pressurizing.
i dunno.

You should check to see if the cables connected to your battery terminals are tight.
Same thing happenned to me the other day while driving on the 10W. Car would suddenly lose all power - completely dead. Kinda freaky when your travelling at 80mph, and this happenning about 5 times! Luckily I was able to make it to an offramp and check it out. Turns out the cable connected to the negative terminal of the battery was lose. Once I tightened that up, I haven't had any problems.

I have a 1994 SC400 and my car has exactly the same problem as RacingLexusBoi's car. It just died a few times when I stop at the traffic lights. RacingLexusBoi did you find out what's wrong with your sc300 ? thanks

why do you guys keep saying its the battery, it cant be battery, because when his car is on, his alternator is running, so how is he losing power.
i can start my car up, remove my battery, and drive my car around all day, but if i need to start it up, i need the battery..
all the battery do is give the starter power, so it can crank the car. and also runs powers to stuff when the car isnt on.
anways, i think you need to check your motor, check injectors, tranny.
how does your car idle when you're at the light, pressing on the brakes..
my car has some kind of problems like that too, when im running the AC, the car seems like it idles higher, because of the AC compressor is running with the other belts, so the car needs a higher RPM.
but when i turn off my AC when my car is idle at the light, the car shuts off..
my car is about 150k hehe, i need to check my cap and rotors on my engine. Change spark plugs, clean fuel filter, tranny oil and filter, change out differental oil, etc. i hope it fixes my problems.
and i hope you fix your problem as well.
peace.

its been like a couple of wks now and its just fine now. I took it to sum mechanics and lexus dealer and they told me a bunch of things were wrongs such as intake, egr, fuel filter, fuel ecu, battery, etc.
When my car broke down on the freeway, i told my father about it( since he had sum experience on autos). He told me that when he was lookin around that it was my intake. It was not gettin enough air to the engine and etc., He even demostrated it by not allowing air to come in and the engine died. So I proceeded to change back to stock. ( I had a K&N with a heat shield, no cold air box).
Another thing was he tighten the screw next to the thing that revs the engine (sorry i dont noe the tech term).
After that I scanned around and sum of the hose by the egr were worn and sum were even cut alittle, so i decided to changed most of them with new ones. Also I changed the hoses by the engine just in case.
Now my car works fine, but for how long? I plan to replace my fuel filter and sparkplugs in the near future.
Also as a side note i had some spare tym to clean my tail lights (took 3 hrs to pry it open and like 2 hrs to clean and let it dry and put it back) and its was not as ez as people claimed it to be. Hopes this helps. ^_^

This happened to my car once about 2 months ago, so i took it to my mechanic and ask him to replace the fuel filter, timing belt, water pump, air filter etc... and hoping that the problem will go away, but four days after I received my car back, same problem occured. I was stopping at the traffic light and when I step on the pedal the car move about 20 yards and suddenly the car just died, I was able to start the car again after about 5 minutes later. Many people told me that most likely the problem is the fuel pump controller and I can bypass it by connectting 12V directly to the fuel pump. I think I will try that and see what happen. I'll keep you guys update.

This is just an update on the status of my car, I bypassed the fuel pump ecu and drove my car around like that for a few days and it was running fine, then I bought a used fuel pump ecu for $80 and replace the defective fuel ecu and it's been running okay for the last 6 weeks so I think the problem with my car was the fuel pump ecu. This website is great without this website it would have cost me $500 dollars to fix this problem. $300 for new fuel ecu,$100 for lexus to diagnose and $100 to install it.
