Default Bad MPG

I am only getting about 16-17 miles per gallon in my 93 SC400 w/116,000 miles. Is this typical? What could be causing such a low gas mileage?

...okay I did a search and it seems like a lot of people are getting the same results as me.. but a lot are also getting better.. any ideas?

I have a '93 SC4 with 107K, I get 18 town, 21 highway, but I'm old. Try taking your foot off the gas now and then and everything will be fine...

Your O2 sensor could be damaged which would make you lose gas mileage. But it all depends on your driving style just like said above, if you are always flooring it you will have worse gas mileage.

You should remove your EFI fuse overnight. Your MPG will go back to factory "efficient" specs.

Question MPG computer is optimistic

My mpg hand calculations (22.5 avg over two tank fulls) are 2 mpg lower than the computer (24.5 mpg).

Any way to adjust the the computer -- or just live with it?

Thanks for the help !!

Thanks for the replies everyone.. I will try the EFI fuse and have the O2 sensor checked out, but first I will watch how I drive. I don't think that I drive fast, but maybe that's because I am used to it.

Post Engine in tune

When was the last time you had a tune-up?
Check air filter, gas filter, plugs etc. This will contribute to better gas milage. Also take in consideration how often you utilize your O.D. and ECT power buttons as well as the lead in your foot!

Default mjames08 !!!

ok this has been discussed several times, first fill your tank to the max and see how many miles you can drive before your orange light comes on...im getting about 350 miles with city driving before the light comes on...you may be getting better gass mileage than you think...the best i have gotten before my light comes on is 397...a combination of highway and city...so you could be fine but use that as a self check and the do a search for the gas mileage...

I have gotten over 400 several times for highway driving. I get around 300 in the city but thats mostly on the floor. Several members get over 400 consistantly. I pulled 447 on the way to Memphis without the AC and I only had one race with a Rousch GT.

Yup, that's pretty bad. I usually get abouy 15-17mpg city, but I admit that I have a lead foot. I too have gotten over 400 miles from a tank full every now and then. My mpg always drop when driving in NYC, basically the race of your life to the next red light... Reset your ECU and see what happens.
