Default Alternator replacement. what brands 4 replacement

Well guys, I am so excited to tell you that my battery light illuminated. Excited cause everything is bone stock so this is my first replacement item. What brands from autozone, Advance Auto or Car Quest etc do you recommend. I would like to stay as close to stock alternator as possible but if theyre is a brand that could exceed stock performance, you got my interest! Help. I can't turn my own wrench at all!

EDIT: MY Alternator was not broken after doing tests. Cancel and close this thread mods.

Toyota, stay OEM if your looking for a quality replacement. When buying alternators from autozone / advance sometimes its a crap shoot as to the quality of the alternator rebuild which may require multiple replacements until you get a good core.

I am going through this same thing right now. I went the autozone route and have had a few bad ones. 2 days ago I changed it out again.

If I were you I would go to a reputable shop that rebuilds them and get it upgraded while you are there. The Autozone one has a lifetime warranty but replacing it every few months is quite annoying.

I picked up a Duralast alternator from AZ. I would rather get one right away then face the impracticability of trying to do a rebuild. Just to try a solid 1-2 combo, I picked up a Duralast gold battery too so I can try to extend the life of the alternator by creating synergistic gains in harmony between these very closely related and quite complementary parts! I don't think enough has been said about checking your alternator when replacing batteries as our SCs age into double digit life and at 125k! My alternator was presumably stock so had to use a 1-2 combo of battery+alt then the unthinkable solo battery replacement at 125k! I didnt want to wait on a rebuild of a weak alternator while my new Duralast GOLD battery gets drained. I love AZ Duralast GOLD battery and they complement my Gold on Gold with the Gold package SC! haha

Anyone have a spare trunk lid strut they can spare or know a online resource that might have one?

I'd buy OEM Reman from a Toyota dealer.

I'm not sure if the plugs are different but you might try cross-referencing Supra NA Automatic alternators. Supposedly they are 90-amp. Again, verify the plugs on the back match.

The SC300's came with 80-amp units except for early 1995 models which had 100-amp alternators for some reason and the same was true of either 97, 98 or 99 models (I don't know which). This may or may not have had to do with fully loaded cars (i.e.: heated memory seats, heated mirrors, Nakamichi stereo option, Lexus Phone option, sunroof, etc.)
