Default SC400 antenna replacement option

Hello All
I have replaced my antenna on my sc400 recently and happened to have taken a few pictures. I have decided to post it here in case someone here might need the info as well.

I have replaced it with a Hyundai antenna assembly.
Here are a few picture of the process.

Here is the difference between the 2 antenna assemblies once they are removed from the vehicle.
SC400 on the left / Hyundai on the right

Removed insert

I grinded the head in order to fit the SC400 insert, I have a used a pair of pliers to make it easy.

Perfect size for the SC400 insert on the Hyundai antenna

Threaded all the way

When removing it , this is what I got

Here it is installed into the SC400. The nut and hardware all line up.

Here it is with the insert attached while on the car

Final result

I can now upgrade to any antenna I choose since it’s just a threaded connection. I will get a stubby antenna in the near future after my next visit to the wrecker.

I hope it helps some of you guys. Fell free to pm or post any related questions

Thank you

This is actually the first time that I have seen of this mod for the power antenna. Converting it to a non power antenna doing it this way. How is the service or reception from the radio?

Sorry, but I don't really see the purpose of doing this unless your antenna motor is busted. I got my OE replacement antenna from eBay 3 years ago, and it still works perfectly. Even if it breaks again, it only took 15 minutes to install and $13 delivered.

i just unplugged mine and left it down, i still get great reception when im using the radio. easiest mod ever and looks the best IMO. Next step is shaving it off when i get the car resprayed.

The mast on mine broke a while back but the motor still works. Replaced it for around $15 and a about an hours worth of work.

With the new Pioneer head unit, rarely use the AM/FM so installed a switch so it remains down unless there is a need to use the radio.

Not quite as extreme as a full shave and fill in but effective.

Service and reception is the same as the OEM antenna.
I have replaced it because mine broke too many times. Where I live, it cost about 25$ for the replacement antenna because of shipping.

I just needed a permanent solution and I found it.

Anyone have a way to remove it and cap it? Mine is stuck half way up and I don't use it anymore.

I guess I know how to remove it, I just don't know what to cap it with that would look decent.

I removed my o.e. antenna assembly and bought an under the dash, non-powered hidden antenna. Does 90% as good in my area. I went down to a screen printer that makes peel and stick ad. for truck doors, and picked out the closest color. Traced around a quarter twice and put one on the inside and one on the outside. Its shaved until I can do better.

Thanks xtra for taking the time to share this with the rest of us.

I'm not wild about the power antenna at all either. I have replaced the mast once already and now that I'm changing out the sound system, I'm hoping to figure out how to use the old radio power switch to control the antenna, so I can leave it down when it's not needed, and run it up when I do. If it works out, it should still store itself when the key is remove.

If that fails, then I'll follow your write up and install a S2000 or some other stubby antenna to take its place.
