Just Got 97+Kit -Bumpers 100$-Are These Door Moldings?
Wow,
I just got a 97+ body kit minus bumpers for 100$ delivered to my apartment. That is one wicked deal.
I got:
2 side panels
2 rear lower panels
2 door moldings (I believe)
Are the smaller long pieces in an x pattern on top "door moldings?
Will the rear lowers look OK without the 97+ rear bumper? I am going to use my 95 bumper with a painted wise lip.
('d better get these filthy car parts off the carpet before the lady gets home! )

Wow, great steal there bro. Yes, the pieces that form the "x" are the lower door moldings. And the 97+sides with lower moldings will look fine with that lip on a 95 front. Check out the link below, this should help give yo some ideas how your sc will look? I think your SC will look even smoother, since you have the lower door moldings.

How Hard Is it To Prep These For Paint Myself? (for a paint rookie)
Hey,
How involved is preparing these parts for paint? I am tempted to try it myself and just have a shop spray it for me. Is it difficult, easy to mess up, super messy?
I have no garage, Maybe I could do it outside at my storage space?
i assume I need something to strip the paint, sandpaper and some kind of filler as a small section has a few scratches.
Should i just pay to have it all done, or prep it myself.
I have never painted or prepped anything.

sand them all down with 280, then 320, then 400, you could then prime it if you want but you really dont have too.
Then go to a place that sells automotive paints and tell them you want your base coat in a pre-filled spray can(rattle can), the dealer even sells these most of the times.
Then just buy a nice automotive clear to go over your base, practice on one piece until u master it , then move on to the others.
But yea if u dont want to attempt it just sand it like above and give it to the shop.

it would be very easy to paint these yourself you dont really need a shop, it would be a really good place to try out your skills for the first time.

I will start on the smallest pieces and see if I can sand it in my apartment without getting stabbed by my Fiancé.
Should I strip the paint with something first?

but yea the sanding will hardly make any mess,,, and no you dont want to use stripper on those items cause they are plastic or whatever
Basically you want to sand most of the clear coat down and then you can re apply the base , then apply the clear over top once the base is dry

Did you order mounting clips, bolts etc from Lexus? I dont know what I am going to need to mount this stuff. Some of it is being used to mount the current stuff but lots will be new. The current kit would not allow for the main metal bumper to be used so I have to put that back on too.
Is "standard" hardware used to mount these body panels or should I order everything?

but you should be able to re use the clips that were holding on your other aftermarket set, if u still got them
for the rear extensions you will need two screws for each side, since I had mud flaps I already had them, not sure if you do or not.
i havent installed my 97 door mouldings yet so im not sure about those sorry
