Wondering what is a good brand to upgrade from OEM light bulbs since i've heard horror story's of some aftermarket bulbs burning up the wiring harnesses due to high voltages?

I just got a set of Koito's from Steve Ganz at Carson Toyota. I think they're amazing! I've probably tried all the other "aftermarket" bulbs that claim to be brighter, but these are the first ones that actually impressed me. I highly recommend them!

The ones I got are a *very* bright white. Don't know if they make a blue tint. They probably have a website or you could just check with Steve.

i just upgraded my bulbs on my headlights, and i went with sylvania silverstar, and did a 9005 convertion because the 9005 bulbs are 70% more brighter then the 9006.
my headlights are great.
silverstar are the best halogen bulbs there is.
check it out for yourself
http://www.sylvania.com/auto/silverstar.htm

they're only 19.99 a piece at autozone.
ill take pictures tomorrow.

I tried the 9006 sylvania silverstar bulbs and they have more yellow than cheap ricer bulbs. What a waste of $50.

Hmmm My 9005 Silverstars are pretty clear white. Then again, I have the 9005, not 9006. Are you sure your headlights aren't turning yellow? Wipe it down with some Meguir's scratch remover and let us know if they are still yellowish.

Check this tutorial out. http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Upgrade/More_light.htm
You need to swap the rubber gasket from the 9006 onto the 9005 to ensure a proper seal, and then there's a tab to be modified. Not too tough of a job, just be careful not to touch the glass of the new bulb while you're modding it (the oils from your fingers will destroy the bulb when it heats up and boils).

Edit: Hmm. That E34net link appears to be broken at the moment. Carefully re-read the two threads mentioned earlier, I'm pretty sure it discusses how to modify the base of the 9005, and you should be able to tell what needs to be filed down by comparing the 9006 and 9005 side-by-side.

Sc4oo, I did the wetsanding very recently (within the last few months). It's bright but it's pretty yellow, sadly. I really gotta upgrade to HID.
