Question brakes

this may or may not be associated with the problem l posted earlier regarding the "traction control Brake booster" or not so i thought l'd post a new thread.

how hard should l expect to brake to bring the car to a holt?

even though my SC400 has 4 wheel disks it still Seems a little strange that l need to apply presure to the pedal so hard to bring the car to standstill

any comment would be appreciated

Default 3640 pound car

3640 lbs (my V8 atleast) i drive my girlfriends new civic, and its real sensitive on braking, then i jump into the SC and the brakes feel like a frieght train, so i guess its just in proportion.

civic=2400 lbs
SC=3640 lbs

my SC stops real well, not as well as my old LS400 (or so it seems) but i have cross drilled/slotted rotors and 18's on the SC (18's also on the LS) its just pedal presure, but the SC will stop.

out of all the cars/trucks ive driven i think lexus (RWD's) seem to have the best braking and best ABS out of ANY car iver ever driven.

the ABS has real quick cycling. unlike my chevy pickup that you hope will stop someday.

First thought is have you replaced your brake fluid/bled the system lately?

Are your pads/rotors up to par?

Did they do fluids as well?

Did you notice a change for the worse afterwords?

Otherwise there might be some other adjustments that may need to be made (I'm not 100% up to speed on the details of how the lexus system is setup...my car is sitting somewhere waiting for a truck to bring it to me But it sounds like air or water in the lines.

yeah, fluids where done...

the 80k service is one of the major services so if they didn't i'd be very suprised, actually, I just checked the paperwork and can confirm that all fluids were either topped up or bleed and replaced.

So if everything were the same before and after then there is probably some other adjustment. If it changed then maybe they didn't bleed properly? When I get home I can check my service records and see what lexus did to fix the car I bought when the previous owner complained of something similar

They replaced the pads and machined front and rear rotors I'm guessing they neglected to mention some adjustment to either the pedal or beyond.

Customer complained "pedal goes to floor; hard to stop"

My idea would be to check for adjustments at the pedal, then output rod. Check out your master cyllinder. Maybe someone here could post the SM pages - that would help a bit My service manual is probably going to arrive after my car...and my car is going to arrive january 2nd at best

Are the brakes worse then stock? I know my brakes on my GS don't feel all that great and I've been told on the board that it's the hoses that flex that give that feeling. Supratrd sells stainless steel(I think stainless) brake line kits for the GS that are suppose to resolve that. I need to get a set before my 30k service is performed.

I am not sure if this would resolve the issue because the solution is for a GS.

Good luck
