I was looking for some switches for my Firebird project when I came across this other pair of products that are well suited to our cars, a "switchblade" key and remote assembly similar to those used on late-model Audi/Porsche/VW cars.
Sorry for bumping an old *** thread but has anyone done this upgrade? There's a guy on ebay that cuts the key for you and sends it out, you just program it yourself, I just don't know about the quality of the materials and if it would work with the deep ignition on the SC's and if the added distance between the transponder and the immobilizer would mess something up.
I ordered one from them a few weeks ago for my 99 SC. cost me about $54 including insurance . My local Stealer wanted to charge me about $300 for the key & programming.
I tried the program/instructions they included but I couldnt get it to work . So I tried the program instruction I found online & I was able to program the key but not the remote. but hey at least I have a 2nd key to start the car with

Since i didn't really trust the switchblade key I just bought the OEM replacement. Or well, sorta OEM, it's not exactly factory, it's solidly built but you can tell the text on the key plastic isn't as sharp as the OEM denso part. I tried programming it but it didn't work, maybe I don't have a master key, the security light wouldn't even come on when I tried to put it into programming mode. But on to costs, the guy charges 20 dollars for 2 cut key shells which is incredible since the keys work and are as sturdy as the OEM keys as far as I can tell. A key with a transponder remote in it costs around 55 dollars and it's a bit of a risk because it may not program correctly, and the switchblade key costs about the same and comes with a remote I believe. Both of these are also cut and sent. The 20 dollar option is great if your remote still works fine.
totrider, could you tell me exactly how you programmed your key? Mine wouldn't do anything when I tried to program it.
i just pm'd you the link. sry was gone for a while didnt even know i had a reply here hahahah...
I was able to ONLY start the car with it though. the remote thing i havent tried it again since the last time. anyway check your pm.
