Default 1jz Upgrade

It's time to upgrade my stock twins.

What turbo should i upgrade to.
I want a quick spooling, not too laggy turbo that makes power down low and linear like the stockers, but i dont want to boost it too high, nothing over 14-15psi.

Any suggestions?

(i could also upgrade my stockers to 2860RS spec, but i've heard that they go out often)

A 6262, 6265, or GT35 would also be a good option. What are your goals?

400, reliable, quick spool, power down low.

I say S362 or S360 for the quick spool. Upgrade the cams also and get a great tune on 93 and you will be set. My S366 is laggy but it makes me drive it like a regular car, until it hits boost at 4900 or so... Yeah I know thats high, but point it straight when it comes in... I bought this turbo for room to grow in the furture of possibly stage 3 cams, and valves and so on, and maybe a 2JZ block. The BW are cheap to rebuild, so keep that in mind also... JMO.. GL on your choice. MY vote is ANY BW turbo...

money is kind of a factor. I was think an oil journal bearing turbo.
Also quick spooling is a priority.

Should i hack my t4 manifold and put a t3 flange and t3 turbo on it?
I'm buying a china turbo (yes kill me now).
i want to run a .58 AR exhaust wheel for a quick spool while i build my Twin turbo manifold for twin 2680rs spec turbos.

There is a company that will rebuild the stock ct12a twins with steel blades and possibly a slight increase in maximum boost efficiency to about 14psi. I have forgotten the name but they still do it. They may be the only company that does this service. Drift motion doesn't touch CT12A's. That Tomei Arms turbo kit is indeed for 1JZ VVT-i engines only-- but for those it is bolt on.

if you want single turbo on a budget, he can help you out too. he does all kinds of turbos, or, you could buy any holset, he351, hx35, hx40, h1c, etc etc they all spool fast and put down decent power for a budget build. but holsets are t3 footprint so you'd have to buy a t3 manifold or buy a t3/t4 adapter plate[/quote]

The OP's criteria are pretty close to what I'd want. I've read good things about HX35's, too from Ford 2.3T SVO guys. It just seems like a great all around budget turbo with decent flow if you're not going crazy.

A guy named Jeff at Turbo Auto in Nashville Tennessee can do the upgrade on the stock twins and get really good results if you want to "fix" the stock ones and make 400 reliable hp!
