Stock Sub replacement info needed!!!

Hey Guy's I just bought a Alpine MRP-M350 Car Amplifier Monoblock V Power amp I plan on installing in the rear dash. My question to the Car audio junkies (I'm new to the Audio world) is I've been looking at the Watt's out put and the amp is adjustable to play 350W at 2 ohms and only 200W at 4 ohms. So correct me if I am wrong but are the 4 ohm sub worse?? It appears I can run either type of sub off this amp?? I am just swaping the stock sub with a new 10" So I am trying to match power with power. Any info or recommendation to match a good sub with this amp would be great!!!!!

I'm not much of an audio junkie either but I think you'll need a slim free air sub to mount in that location. You could always get a little crazy and build a box around it but with the gas tank right there I don't see you having much space.

4 ohms subs are exactly "worse". They have less resistance and tend to have less "power" but it just depends on your goals. You can wire speakers down in parallel to 2 ohms but depending on your hardware, it might not be the best idea. I had that same amp but in the 500 version and it powered my 12" Alpine Type R that I had in a ported box pretty well. That's a 1000 watt RMS sub so I was pretty under-powered and had room for more boom. Look in to the 10" version and you won't be disappointed

Many ideas here. The stock sub in my 92 is a 2ohm. The lower the impedence the more power produced, when supplied with the correct constant volts. Check out www.12volt.com. alot of info and wiring, including speaker enclosures, just everything. I say go with a JL audio solarbaric sub or free air style. Need to measure the depth to.assure it doesnt hit the fuel tank. Also check out the audio/video section on here.

I was thinking along the Line of JL. I think we have about 5inches before we hit the tank. I'm just a little nevous mounting a new 10' in that spot and how it will sound. I had purchased a custom fit box from florida a few years back that sat in your trunk perfect! But the company or people who make it are no more.I since sold that car and the system with it.

I've always wanted to swap the stock sub and what it would sound like with a aftermarket in it's place. thanks for the info guys here goes nothing

I actually have a pioneer 10" (I think) that used to be in my car when I bought it and is collecting dust in the closet.

Are you talking about the stock pioneer sub? Or did you mount a aftermarket one in the rear deck before?

Hey guys! So an Update on the stock sub replacement.

My Alpine MRP-M350 mono amp has arrived and it's going to fit perfect mounted under the rear dash! which will be totally hidden!

So I've removed the stock pioneer sub and began my measurements. I had to tear the stock sub apart but I got the OEM mounting bracket out as I want to see if I can still put the rear break light and sub cover on again after the swap. By using the stock bracket it appears to allow more depth( depth of the sub) if I do not use the bracket I am really tight on space before I hit the tank =/

I was thinking along the lines Pioneer TS-SW251 800 Watts 10" Single 4 Ohm Shallow Mount sub (great price). It's right in line with my Amps output and the depth of the sub is only 3.5inch!! Again I am not really going BIG on this system as I have had a few 12's in my SC before and just want a nice clean beat to watch my movies to. This should be interesting as I am heading down to my buddies store tomorrow to explore some more options. Ill keep everyone posted. But as this project rolls along I will take photos and do a DIY as I have not been able to locate one in the past for people who want to swap there stock sub and not give up the trunk space.

Just sharing a past experience. I swapped my stock sub for an ebay cheapo 10 sub in my 99 GS. It was not a "free air" design sub, and the sound quality was the same, but my total bass output dropped by about 10-15%. Just make sure you use a free air sub. I don't want anybody to lose bass like I did!

Yeah that sub really would be a waste of money... subwoofers need a box to create sound in, free air subs are designed to work in locations like our rear deck.

I've been looking at a few different kickers. There price for Free Air Subs are not bad. As I said I am not trying to go overboard on the price for a simple upgrade. I talked to a guy who has the same set up in his 99 gs300 and it's clean I just do not know if they have the same issue with the gas tank and mounting depth
