For the past couple months my sc had turned off on me randomly.. When I'm Driving, it will just shut off in the middle of the street or I crank up the car in park and the car will turn off itself. It sucks but the car runs and drives just fine!!!! The check engine light does come on every once and while but ends up going away, or stay for a while. The owner of the car before me told me that the car has a bad O2 sensor could that be the problem causing this ? Would a bad fuel pump cause the engine light to turn on ?

 

When you mean "turn off" the engine stops running? Or EVERYTHING(interior lights,gauges, radio, everything) just turns off?

Could be a fuel pump giving up, that's were I would start.

 

Does the fuel pump make the check engine light turn on ?

 

Man, just about anything makes the CEL go on in Lexus vehicles.

And mine JUST did the exact same thing on the highway. 99% sure it was the fuel pump. Just replaced it today so no word back yet for that extra 1%. Mine sounded like it was running but def not pumping enough fuel in there. The pump is easy to replace is you have small hands. I have bog ol hand and it was a PITA for about 2 minutes trying to connect the fuel hose in the tank back on to the pump.

 

no it wont...or shouldnt. when my fp gave up the ghost the car started and ran fine, but died upon going into gear. never threw a code. even the dealership couldnt pull one
