Default Burning up MAFs

So I'm burning up MAFs in my 92 sc400 with 250k miles on it, my 4th one in 2 years just bit the dust. I know I can just keep replacing them but they never fail at opportune times... Is there an aftermarket non lexus replacement MAF option? Maybe something programmable that is fairly close to plug and play?

Would also like to figure out why they are burning up, the replacements I'm getting are from forum members here do they are old OEM parts which might be at the end of their life cycles, but I'd like to know for sure why I keep killing them. Any sort of diagnosis/multimeter analysis that I can throw against the problem that anybody can point me to?

You are are prolly buying left over parts from their old setups and so on. Life span of those depends on the driving conditions, weather, rain, salt, etc, and how often you clean your filter. If you dont check it often, meaning the filter, I would recommend you do so. JMO, and food for thought. GL, in trying to figure out your problem. If megamax, cant help you, I might have one..

are you using the oem air filter or aftermarket?

the only thing that can really replace the old karman maf signals in the sc3 and sc4 are the HKS VPC with a mk3 chip in it, but i would have no idea what size injectors you would need to change to for the fueling to be correct. If you add a SAFC to theVPC you may be able to dial it in without changing injectors, its a popular combo in the supra crowd.

I am not sure if a map ecu will work on the sc400, but if it did with the correct map that would be all you need to convert to map density. its basically a map ecu and a much better version of the safc all built into one. I have heard many discuss it but haven't seen one installed yet.

What is your car doing when the MAF goes bad each time?

starts up, and then runs for 2 seconds, stumbles and dies. restart attempts result in less run time each time as it then dies. then I unplug MAF, car usually starts but lately this too has been degrading, it will run for 4-5 seconds and then die. the die off is like a fuel starvation, press the throttle and you can hear the intake sucking air but it's like there is no fuel. when it's hot like today then it is even worse, so if I get it running with maf unplugged, and then turn off, plug maf back in it'll go back to dying off. hope that both makes sense, and provides a clue of some sort that might help me
