Default Spare Key Cut?

So what happen is I got a spare key online and had one of the local locksmith laser cut it. It will open my doors and trunk on my 99 sc300 but will not even budge in ignition. The spare look the same as the original except a little bit shorter. Does anyone ever has the same problem? Is it because of the key or is it the ignition problem? My original work just fine.

Thanks

Seeing that you have a 99 from this point of view it seems like your missing the transponder. Without one your car will not start or you just need to pair it to your car.

if thats the case sounds like a reason to pull apart the steering column and tape the original to the column hahaha

It's the key that is the issue. You bought a GS key instead of the SC key. The key blade is shorter, so when put into the ignition of the SC the head of the key will hit the dash and not allow the key to turn. A simple solution would be to remove the trim ring around the ignition or buy another key.

Even if the immobilizer wasn't programmed to the car the key should still be able to turn. The car won't start, but the key will turn.

The immobilizer is built into the keyless entry device on the key, so you won't be able to open the trunk or doors with the remote if you tape it inside the steering column.

Thanks for the responses guys, I found out the solution already. But just like blkexcoupe said I got the gs key which is shorter and cooler and awsomer lol. Well for anyone that wants to get these gs keys (the shorter one) to work on sc all you have to do is get it cut but make sure you cut the groove (the str8 indention) toward the end of the key a lil deeper, remember this is bc it is shorter. The groove tend to be higher toward the end. FYI it fit just right with the key trim in place. I figure it had to work bc it was able to open the trunk and doors. Thanks so much guys.

Also, now I'm gonna get one of them flip out key
