Question Remote Key

Hi!
I'm Bill from Mauldin, SC and am the proud owner of a new (to me) 1994 SC400.
I have a key with the remote lock/unlock button on the side.
I want to have an extra one, but do not want to pay the exorbitant
price the dealer wants (350.00 + programming). I don't mind
buying a used one if it can be reprogrammed. Any help out there?
Thanks

Default Remote Key

Hey you can go on ebay and buy the remotes for the car. It will be around 50 to 60 dollars for a used one i would think. Then you have to get a key shell(very cheap) and go to lexus and it get it cut and you can program the doors by yourself via instructions online. But to make it start go to lexus. Will still save you at least half the price!

You can't program a "key shell" because it doesn't contain a transmitter.

You cant program/reprogram the 92-95 remote keys. If you want another remote key you'll have to purchase and new set of keys (ie more than one in order to have two working keyless entry keys) and the ROM chip that is placed into the keyless ECU. Lexus will then cut the keys for you. Your old remote key will still work to unlock the door manually and start the car but the remote function will no longer work. Althought pricey to purchase from the dealer my DIY install will saw you a $100 or so dollars!

I believe all 96+ keys can be reprogramed.

See my DIY for info:

I meant buy the used key and put it inside the key shell!
