I drove a 92 SC400 at a used car lot today. It was advertise that the car have 129,000 miles on it but when I started the engine, the reading on the mileage is only 42,XXX on it. I asked the dealer what is going on with the car. He said he have no idea. The interior worn out, engine looks so dirty. It looks like a 200,000.00 miles Lexus. Anyone know how they reset the digital mileage? I believed they might change the car’s computer from a low mileage vehicle.
There are now people in the UK offering to re-set the odometer on a Soarer for £120, this is legit if you change the readout from KPH to MPH but there will be unscrupulous dealers who will take advantage.
someone in this board posted once saying that he had changed his battery and when it came back, the mileage had reseted to 0. He checked everything, and not, it wasnt any of the trip comp, was the actual mileage so who knows..
btw, no that does not guarantee you to reset your mileage so dont go around now disconnecting your battery , that was just one of those once in while cases
It's pretty easy to roll back the mileage on the instrument cluster, but most likely they took an instrument cluster out of a salvaged low mile car with no service history and transplanted it.
I think Skullinlex would be refering to someone who had a J spec car with full digital speedo, although I have never heard of the odometer resetting to ZERO.
They specialize in recalibrating Porsche, Ferrari, Benz, and BMW gauge clusters, but the tech there is a freaking genius and figured out to roll mine back. My original instrument cluster was stolen out of my car (don't ask me why they went for that ..) so I had to use a salvaged one from a '94 with 94k miles. The guy rolled it back to 47k for me. He won't roll back any old odometer you give him. You have to present documented proof that you car has as many miles as he's rolling it back to otherwise he won't do it.
Thats Cool,
I've was eyeing one of those new SC400's with the guage culster that has BLUE led's =)
If I ever get one from a salvaged car, I'll have it reset to my current milage.
I thought about the mod, but wasn't sure if the milage can be switched right, or if the main CPU kept track of it. (in which case the guage cluster odo is just a readout"
