So I have read through this post and from what I can tell one major thing that no one is talking about would be the clutch type to use. If you are using a 1j or 2j you would be forced to use a w58/w55 pressure plate due to it being push type release. So this would limit your selection as R154/V160 both use pull type. Southbend clutch will make any clutch disk for you ie( w58 dimensions with nissan splines) So easy solution to this would be as follows:

1. cd009 trans
2. driveshaft with 4x2 titan slip yoke with 1350 joints
3. 2jzge flywheel
4, w58/w55 pressure plate
5. Southbend clutch disk
6. Shifter relocation or custom bracket
7. Milling of the bellhousing (Only other option would be to space flywheel itself out with a spacer) scary thought?

Correct me if im wrong but I think this is all you would need tentatively for doing a 2j or 1j swap

 

What year Titan do we steal the slip yoke from?

I'm using an adapter so I can run any 350z flywheel and clutch.

 

So a billet piece that allows you to bolt the 350z flywheel to 2j crank? Sounds scary the rotation and vibration generated would scare me. But anywho it is early titan 4x2 (older body style). If you take it to your local truck drivetrain shop (mine is cook brothers) they can look up the spline count and put a brand new yoke on it for you

 

What year are you referring to when you say "early"?

I don't think anything has changed with the Titan since they came out in 04' they still have the same driveline/body in today's truck

Would the flywheel just big a thicker 350z OD unit that is drilled out with the 1j/2j holes? I would think you can use any of the shelf 350z clutch?

 

I can't speak from experience yet, only what I've read, heard, etc.

Because of the adapter plate, you need to make sure the flywheel sticks out far enough that the trans input shaft splines fully penetrate the clutch disc, plus a little (a couple inches I think, can't remember). So if you just stuck a standard flywheel or whatever on there, because of the thick adapter plate, that would pose an issue.

You need to make sure the starter will still function and engage teeth to start the car.

I believe Brett (1UZSWAP) has a custom Flywhell and Clutch setup made that addresses this. The flywheel is probably similar to a thicker 350z flywheel, and drilled specially to bolt to a 2jz crank, and the teeth on the outside in the right spot for the starter. Clutch is made to mate to that flywheel. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but just how I imagine it.

The kit I have from Brett uses an adapter. I chose this route because it allows me to use any off the shelf 350z flywheel and clutch I want, rather than being locked in to using his custom flywheel and clutch setup that only he can get (what happens if he gets hit by a Mack truck and dies?). So I need to use a stock flexplate for the starter to engage. Then there is an adapter that bolts to the crank that converts the bolt pattern to a 350z pattern, and is also thick enough to ensure proper trans input shaft spline engagement to the clutch. There is also a Pilot bearing adapter which I can't say I understand 100% yet what that's for. I'm still learning

How did you come up with that part number? In that link it seems to fall under Toyota Truck?

 

I'm the kind of person who likes to make sure things are clear and specific, no room for confusion.

So we'll say a Nissan Titan driveshaft, from say an 04-10 will work? Someone mentioned 4x2, is that true, does it have to be from a 4x2?

 

out of all the 350z parts, i wouldn't use the transmission. say goodbye to your syncros.

Is this from personal experience or hear say on the internet? Nissan fixed this problem with the CD009 trans update... read the thread. I know of a handful of local 350Z turbo owners that have had no problems with their trans for years running over 500whp daily.

 

Subscribed. I am curious to see how this ends up working out. Would be great to have a less expensive 6-speed option for our cars.
