Default BIZARRE tranny issue, please help!

OK, I have a WEIRD problem....

I just added a tranny cooler, shimmed the accumulators and now my car has five forward gears, no neutral and no reverse. Anyone have ANY IDEA what would be causing this?

When it does shift, it's quite bizarre, it will go to shift like it normally does and it will shift into a lower gear and rev really high. "Drive" has no power whatsoever and will not go up hills. The most drivable gear is Reverse and it drives like "Drive" used to.

This is BIZARRE! What did I likely do wrong and how do it fix it?

Hey man, wow this is confusing, especially because you said there is no reverse, 5 forward gears (on 4 speed) and then it drives in reverse life forward. lol sorry to laugh, it's just this seems like a huge pickle of an issue you have here. Do you have photos of your transmission install?

It wasn't a transmission install per se. It was basically a glorified fluid service. I added a transmission cooler to the return line. I also removed the valve body and shimmed the accumulators, replaced the filter and put it all back together with new fluid. It's the weirdest thing I've ever dealt with. I have NO idea what to do.

Hi Parker,

It is a 1995 SC400. I used Toyota IV fluid today. The previous owner had filled it up with Dexron-Mercon for some reason. So it has a mixture of both for some reason.

Parker, it'd be easier just to call me, since I'll be under the car tearing it apart all over again.

Uh, you tell me what I did!

The only thing I can think of is that it's valve body related. I'm waiting for the tranny to cool down enough so that I can tear it apart again and start over.

I just took it apart again down to removing the valve body. Can someone give me some guidance as to what to do now?

"removed the valve body and shimmed the accumulators"

OK, so I'm assuming the thing to do would be to take the valve body back off and take out the accumulators? Any other suggestions?

I've heard of lots of people shimming the accumulators, but I've never heard of THIS issue! LOL! I just hope I can fix it.

Anyway, I took it apart and removed the valve body again. I'm leaving it alone disassembled until I hear something more.

Okay, I hired a local mechanic and we put it all back together and STILL it drives forward in reverse and neutral. The linkage is fine, it has plenty of fluid. Nothing makes sense. Any ideas?

when i turn the car on and switch it to reverse and nutral and sometimes even in park it is in drive. when the car is off it will go into neutral and reverse but whe ni start the car it goes forward. it has to be computer related but i have no idea where to start on this

I thought it also might be computer related, so I shut off the car and held the battery cables together for 30 seconds. It started up and sounded kinda weird, but nothing changed. You're right, when the car is off, the gears are correct! Nothing makes any sense. Given that it's a 95, is the computer integrated into the transmission to this extent? I thought it was mostly mechanical.
