Default Broken temp and vol control

Hello,

With having a long day watching the new puppy and making sure it dont poop all over the place, I've been working on small things in the car while it sleeps all day. One of these small things was to disassemble the temp and vol controls and get into the inner wiring etc... call it the curiosity that killed the cat.

Apparently I missed one screw on the board and while pulling out I winded up with this

Now the AC comes on when I press the temp control, however the temp is set to 75 and wont change when I turn the ****. I cant really see the connections on the board (my eyes are a little bad), but I'm sure a little soldering will fix this small misfortune without having to replace the whole piece.

Another question regarding the same piece. I realize not all the wires on the broken side are for radio right? Meaning if I cut them off the temp control **** wont work when turning it. Perhaps I could solder the wire directly on the other side of the board?

Can anybody shed some light on where the temp control **** connects to and where to solder?

I almost never use the AC in the summer or at all, but sometimes it is necessary to turn on the heat in this winter.

All help is appreciated

Edit: The side with the bulbs (the 2 white ***** shaped bulbs) attached and the harness plug is the one for the temp control

Damn dude, if mine was in that condition I'd just buy one off of ebay or our classifieds. I think I've seen them for $40-50 with "tan" *****. Unfortunately we are not allowed to post ebay links via the warden aka OLT or I'd help you out more. Best of luck but that seems like a wiring nightmare when you could just buy a good condition used one. I'm all for ripping things apart and figuring out how to fix things myself. Good luck with the new puppy.

Thanks for the prompt response guys, it seems like it will be a nightmare to solder it back together. I've messed up an audio board about 6 years ago but I knew what was what so it was an easy fix, here I have no clue and it seems connections are on both sides of the board.

However, I THINK I found the problem, the 3rd pin from the top (on the right board, its almost hidden under the controller itself) isnt connected to its contact point. Sorry cant take a pic without the macro lens.

greens14: Good stuff, sending u a PM. I'll still take the challenge and attempt to fix the current one.

On a side note, the pup wont leave me alone, chose to sleep like this otherwise wont sleep. Heh I guess he's telling me "enough work, your only making it worse!"

It would just be a good idea to buy another used temperature and volume control assembly. Most likely you will only find the brown colored *****, but you can swap over your black/gray ***** and volume/temp cover plates over to the new one.
