It's like somebody stopped the clock in 1997 and car values from that era froze -- unless you count the SC, which dropped like a brick. A 1st gen DSM commands more money than a clean SC! No $40k new car is worth $40k two decades later, I don't care now nice it was -- Supra, NSX, Viper, or anything else.
Supply and Demand dictate what MKIV Supras and other cars are worth, simple as that. Not everyone will pay those prices but that's just the way it is. You can say they are not worth it but the market decides that.

Christ, the 'SC vs. Supra' debates get incredibly tiresome. They're two very different cars meant to serve different purposes, guys. Functionally, the SC is closer to the MKIII Supra than it is the MKIV. The SC was never meant to be a hard, fast sports car. It was built as a stylish, luxury, GT cruiser meant to waft you about in comfort.

Buying an SC and treating it as a poor man's MKIV Supra is idiotic.

Just give it a few more years Mr.2010, it gets worse.

What does that do? Does that blow your mind? That just happened!
What is that a catch phrase or is that uh epilepsy?

LMAO @ this "poor man's Supra" bull****.

I bought my SC because the Supra (to me) was not worth all the hype. I loved and admired the 2J motor b/c it was easy to tune and made other $70K+ "race-inspired" cars look bad in a street race w/ little to no effort. To me, the Lexus has MUCH more class and elegance and can still get up in someones *** with the swap. I have never been anywhere and not turned heads from ALL AGES...10 years old to 92 years old...I cannot even get gas w/o having someone ask me questions about my SC or just something as simple as a thumbs up given to me (all of which are much appreciated).

I agree with what someone said on the first couple of pages...if we held on to our actual vehicle worth, it would change the market. Its not going to happen overnight though and will not happen with one or two of us doing it either. Have some pride in your work and stop wishing it was a Supra. Its not. To me, its better.

Just my $.02

personal preference. i like the mk4 supra but own a mk3. i had a sc300 because i liked the interior and options

but the sc300 doesnt have lsd or 6 speed or twins or the engineering and research that has created the aftermarket for supras parts. who outside of the gearhead group like high school kids that drive moms car think hey there is a lexus i bet its fast!
1. its Lexus so you know its luxury
2. gold embelums which dont say im sporty
3. the stock rims are blah
4. the typical first owner was wealth business related

It doesn't have the 'engineering and research' that the Supra has? You do realize that the MKIV Supra is based off of the SC/Soarer platform, right? They have the same drive trains besides the 2JZ-GTE/V160 and the 1UZ. They also have very similar suspension setups, even if the SC is softer.

Besides that, I don't... really understand the other points you were trying to make. The LFA and IS-F are also Lexuses.

I don't understand what a car having gold emblems has to do with it being sporty.

Who gives a **** if the stock rims suck? I don't like the stock rims of pretty much any car of that time period.

Wouldn't it be a good thing that the first owner was wealthy? It means that it has a higher chance of being properly maintained throughout its lifetime.

LFA was built when? LFA is how much? do you own one? why not?
lexus is a luxery car in 1990s and still is. but comparing the value of the car to one of a diff category is difficult.
so lexus is softer and has more creature comforts but similar geometry as supra.
supra is the four generation of a heritage of sport coupes.
the appeal i lexus has to the public is luxery high dollar car. so why would someone looking for a fast car go to a lexus? there going to think evo,vette,mustang,wrx,300z,supra,skyline,etc,etc not sc300,sc400. cuz there are few out there that actually look into lexus for racing. thats nothing against the sc300 i own one because i like the creature comforts and the sleeper status

I was simply making a point. Lexus has built multiple sporty, fast cars.

The SC also presently has four generations of heritage in the Soarer, champ.

Most people looking for sporty cars aren't going to buy a Lexus. That's not a point I'm debating. But, they can and do make sporty cars when they want to.

^^ This. While no one should expect Supra resale values from SC300/400's, let alone stock ones... swapped, well sorted and restored examples shouldn't be going for dirt cheap either.

Two good-looking cars serving different priorities made in vastly different production numbers that happen to be mechanically identical enough to do exactly the same high performance duties with some work put in.

I think the point made about 1st gen DSM AWD Turbos going for more than GTE swapped SC's says something here.
