Default help : keyhole wont sit flush

So I removed and reinstalled dash. Now my ignition cylinder seems to sit too too close ( far up) into the dash. I also am unable to reseat the interior panel that clips around the cylinder. Regardless of how hard I push/ finagle it into position the clips won't slide in: this causes my key to sit about a quarter of an inch too deep into the hole.

Everything else fits and bolts up correctly on the dash.

Did I not seat my dash far enough back or do you guys have any suggestions?

And the cylinder actually sits even higher than that. This pic is with the steering column not tightened completely ....so it sits about another 5mm higher.

Any advice?! I'm stumped and don't wanna pull the dash again unless that's what's causing the issue

Mess with any of this? Those two main bolts on the plate directly beside the lock are the only mounting points.

nothing outside of dropping the steering column. I've retightened all four bolts. Any other thoughts? I dont think its the cylinder that has moved. I just cant get this interior piece to push/ sit correctly. When i removed it i recall having to pull it out. In this case I should have to push it back in....which i cant. its really strange!

loosen steering column, but leave bolts in. move it around and see if you can make it line up. The keyhole piece will stay in place while you work from the bottom so can be done easily.

i just had the same problem with putting my panel back on cause i dyed it black. the metal clips that hold them in are wrapped in some type of black material that wears out. so i pulled the clips off bented them to make the arch in the clips more curved then wrapped electrical tape on the clips just like how the material from the factory was. i put the clips back in and pressed the panel back in, now its flush again.
