Default Transmission Fluid Black

I got a 95 sc400 with 123k on it. I just bought the car and the transmission fluid is black. I was reading up on other forums and they're saying I shouldn't flush out my transmission fluid because it'll make my transmission run bad. Anybody know whats the best thing I should do? And how much quart of fluid could my sc hold up to?

I'm assuming they see it as loosening up all the dirt and cycling it through the trans will ruin it or something.

The fluid should be cherry RED. Flush it or change it up to you but I recommend a flush....
You already started reading on other forums, try to search a little more you will find a procedure with all the information you need.

With a simple drain and add plus filter replacement, you are actually only replacing about 1/3rd of the fluid, because most will stay in the torque converter. With a flush, you are able to replace all of the ATF in one shot. The argument against having a full flush done, is that when the ATF has deteriorated, sludge can form and by performing the full flush you *may* dislodge it and cause other issues.

Back when I originally bought my SC400 my transmission fluid was in a similar state (brownish-black) and needed attention badly. I had it fully flushed with no issues. The transmission behaved much better afterwords. It was about 10-12 quarts of Toyota type T-IV ATF from my recollection.

Thanks guys. What I did was just pour in 2 quart of transmission fluid because when I check, It seem like it barley had any fluid inside. I also changed my engine oil. But now my car shakes when I'm going about 30mph =\

The sc400 will only use oem type t-iv fluid and nothing else so if you used anything other than oem then that will create a problem.
